that he told Joe Schad that he was scared and Schad asked him what he was scared of to which Paterno replied I'm not scared.

I think now that Bowden is done he will hang it up either after this year or the next. He has locked down having the most wins which I think will never be broken. You will never see a coach go for 45 years again.

I doubt he has been making actual game decisions for at least a few years but good for him for having his all time wins record by default of being a coach for so long.

Only reason he hasn't left is that he knows as soon as he retires he probably won't make it another 2 years.</p>

..the old man is a legend, but he's milking it.

He is not all there anymore (pure old age playing a big role in that).

I understand that 80-something men can still have huge egos.

But JoePa is talking it all too far.

The man loves what he does, and wishes to continue doing it. Is there anything wrong with that? It's not exactly like Penn State is in the *******.

I've been following Penn State for over 20 years and never heard him say that once. He does graduate 80% of his players, though. Lives in a small 3-bedroom housejust off campusand has given millions to the University. Not one probation. As far as I know (or could find on a quick search), he has never even beenaccused of recruiting infractions in over 50 years of coaching.

And even if you do find something obscure from 25 years ago doesnt mean he has a huge ego. Look at the way he has lived. The man has been married to the same woman and lived in the same town for basically his entire life. Like Meddawg said, He lives in a small house right off of campus. Walked to campus and work for 30 something years, and turned down numerous NFL opportunites to continue coaching the program that he built. I dont see anything that supports your claim of him having a huge ego.

It was pretty cool that he took off his glasses and proclaimed that he no longer needs them. I thought Benny Hinn was gonna pop up on screen and knock down one side of the auditorium with a lighning bolt.

....reminds me of the Chris Rock "supposed to" bit:

...will say some **** like, "I take care of my kids." You're supposed
to, you dumb mother17er! What kind of ignorant **** is that? "I ain't
never been to jail!" What do you want, a cookie?! You're not supposed to go to jail, you low-expectation-having mother17er!

um .......

Paterno sounds a lot like ... um ..........

I GOT IT!!!

He sounds a lot like F'N RON QUIXOTE CHOLK.

[/except cholk is ambiguously ghey]. [/hell naw, nothing remotely egotistical about f'n Ron Polk, the self proclaimed savior of college baseball].

and Paterno and Polk are nowhrere on the same level. Also, Paterno gave 2 million to Penn State's Library- What an *******! So why again does Paterno have a huge ego? because he is old and still coaching ? I could understand your claim if he were losing, but last time i checked Penn State was a field goal away from playing for the national championship 2 years ago, and beating LSU in the Capital one bowl last year.

"wishes to continue doing it." Just think, they all think they can drive just like they did when they were 21 too, just ask them! He is a sad pathetic shell of what he once was ( one of the greatest college coaches of all time). He, like most of that age can't see himself from outside. If you watched that press conference you can tell he is obviously being carried by a very supportive coaching staff and university system, no way he makes the day to day decisions that are required of that position. Its time for them to give him a skybox with a monitor and speaker system where he can hear and see whats going on up close but not compromise the reputation of himself or the university.
