Anyone see the UF Spring Game?

It looks like Florida has solved their QB issues with Del Rio and Appleby. Both Del Rio abd Appleby looked sharp, with Del Rio having an excellent game overall. I was also impressed with Trask (a true freshman QB from Texas) in the limited snaps he was in the game. Feleipe Franks is another highly regarded freshman QB who really struggled. Franks had 3 picks and was just off on his reads/throws.

They also have a nasty defense again this year. Loads of DB and Safety talent.

The OL still looks a little shaky, but the passing game with 2 TE sets from the shotgun will be effective for them.

The Gators will not struggle as much this year moving the football through the air, IMHO. They'll be very solid this year.

Trask will be an interesting one to watch. He did not start on his high school team but he looked way better then the 4-star recruit Franks.

Del Rio looked very good, but only went up against UF's second string the entire time he was in. It appeared Coach Mac wanted to build up his confidence.

UF like a lot of teams will only go as far as their OL takes them. They ranked at or near the bottom last year in sacks/ pressure allowed, and the second team DL was able to get to the QB against UF's OL ( minus Ivey) pretty easy. However, when you have a defense like they you won't have to put up a ton of points just don't turn it over.

They also have a heck of a kicker. The spring game was the first time he has ever kicked in a real game -EVER and he hit 3 from over 50. If he can be consistent they are in scoring position anytime they near the 40.

Trask will be an interesting one to watch. He did not start on his high school team but is miles ahead of the 4- star recruit Frank's.

Del Rio only went up against UF' s second team the entire game. It appeared that coach Mac wanted to give him some confidence. With the defense that they have, they just need the QB to not make any mistakes.

UF like so many others will only go as far as their OL takes them. They gave up the most sacks/ pressure allowed last year, and the second team D was able to get to the QB pretty easily.

Also, they have a kicker that hit 3 from over 50 ( missed 2 others). They will be in scoring position anytime that they get near the 40.

Even going up against the 2nd team D, Del Rio was accurate and made throws down field. He does not have a huge arm, but he will make throws that the Gators just couldn't make last season.

Appleby is more of a mobile quarterback, but he still can make all of the throws. Del Rio is a better passer overall right now, IMHO.

Piniero is the kicker you are referencing. He has a huge leg and can make field goals from 55+ yards. Tremendous kicker.

The biggest weakness that I see right now is that UF is still struggling on the O-line. They struggled running from spread sets and struggled containing the pass rush. In all fairness, with the speed this UF defense has, they'll give most O-lines serious trouble on the edge.

Yeah saw a few highlights...both looked legit...

McElwain is the real deal...he's a football mind and offensive specialist...

Florida wasn't going to be down long folks...we really missed a golden opportunity with them the past couple seasons...not all too often does a UK team come across a very beatable Florida squad...

Did not see the game but FL has never had a problem with talent. McElwain is an excellent coach and is apparently implementing a new "culture" in FL football. The Cats have indeed recently missed on a couple of good opportunities to end that streak. May not be back to FL standards quite yet but it's coming. And I'm not to optimistic about winning in the Swamp this year.

Peace

I can't remember the details of last years game in regards to their line. But how many times did we get into their backfield and sack the QB or get negative yardage?

Franks was a disaster in the Army Game this past season. From what I saw, vastly overrated. Big arm, but does not read the field well at all and makes a ton of poor decisions.

Good to know. This makes ending the streak more legitimate when we win in the Swamp.

OK so it's a GOOD thing that a team that has owned us for 29 consecutive years has gotten their act together?

Since there is no rhyme or reason as to why this team keeps beating us every year, we need all the luck we can get right? Wouldn't that best come in the form of bad QB play, a weak defense, and bad coaching? And you say it's a GOOD thing that they got all that taken care of?

Our last 3 games against them may not have been blowouts, but when that team has their act together they beat us to the tune of 75-0. Not sure why anyone would find joy in those comments. SMH...........
