From espn gamecast, if looks like Algeria is playing much better than they did against Slovenia. Any thoughts from those not stuck in front of their work computer?

I didn't see Algeria play against Slovenia but I've been impressed with them so far. They have played it pretty even so far and have been the more attacking side so far. However, I get the feeling they are prone to giving up an easy goal.

Both they and slovenia were aweful. There were so many balls that were just given away right in the middle of the field. Nice to see they are making England work

England starting to open things up more, and creating more chances. Just trying to hold on to the tie before halftime.

Fell asleep during Slovenia/Algeria, so this is the first time I've really seen Algeria. Either they are better than I expected or England isn't that good. Either way, sucks for us. I'm really rooting for England to put Algeria out of the tournament. Our best shot is probably beating an Algeria with nothing to play for.

I don't know if I like playing teams that have nothing to lose. Things end up one of 2 ways- A. they play everyone who hasn't got on, don't careand get killed, or B. (more likely) they play balls to the walls since they have no fear. A team with nothing to lose can be extremely dangerous

Wow. Still 0-0 in the 78th minute. Looks like England is underacheiving in a World Cup yet again. Haven't made it past the quarterfinals since they won it in 1966.

Slovenia will have 4 points.
US and England will have 2 points
Algeria will have one.

If US wins - they are automatically in by my calculations. England-Algeria tie is the best for the US because a win over Algeria guarantees a spot.

Amazing. A win by US, England, or Slovenia is a guarantee. Algeria must win to advance, and would need either Slovenia to win or Slovenia to tie so long as they beat the US by more than 2 or score 2 more goals than England does against Slovenia. Confusing, isn't it?

a win we are in.

Of course, Algeria would have something to play for too. A win with an England loss would put them in.

we just would have had to win by two.

of course if Algeria can tie England, we may not be able to beat them by two. What the hell is England doing?

And it's a final. England - 0, Algeria - 0. If the US beats Algeria on Wednesday, we advance no matter what happens between England and Slovenia.

we win the group if

we beat algeria AND
england wins, and we both win by the same margin (more goals scored)
england/slovenia tie, we win by 2 goals (margin of victory)

If we tie Algeria we are still in with:
Slovenia victory

although it will be tough.

If we draw and Slovenia wins, we advance.

If we draw and Slo-Eng draw, it comes to GD bw us and England which will be the same.

Then I think its goals scored, which we hold the edge 2-1 for now.

Just win. If you had said we will play the worst team in the bracket needing a win to advance I'd take it. Then again, i would never haver thought Algeria would tie her majesty's team. And yet England has only to win too.

If I were Slovenia after blowing a 2-0 lead I'd be nervous now...

If the ref allows that goal, we clinch advancement with a draw vs. Algeria no matter what happens with England-Slovenia.

One slight correction to you. We actually hold a 3-1 edge over England in goals scored. If they draw with Slovenia and wedraw withAlgeria, they would have to score 2 goals more than us just to get it to a random draw for advancement.

I find it hard to believe that we won't at least score one goal...that would force the Brits and Slovenia to score 3 each. As the announcer said, England could have played for 6 hours today and they wouldn't have scored a goal.

pretty much describes this entire world cup so far. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it played out like that. If Algeria can hold England scoreless they sure as hell can hold us scoreless too. Remember, we are M-St...err USA soccer.

We gained a 2-goals scored advantage over them in 1 day. We could lose it in 1 day. I doubt it, but like Sutterkane says, nothing would surprise me much any more.
