Will defeating Wofford help us any at all? Hard to imagine it will. Exciting to be where we're at tho.

Destroying Wofford may help slightly. Probably more contingent on a few teams ranked higher losing. The next two games are all about style points if this team has any shot of getting into the playoff.

I'd say that's fair.

Just need to make sure we completely take care of Wofford. Need to be sharp and firing on all cylinders. Don't want a sluggish performance that causes us to drop in the rankings. A huge win may not help us much in the polls, but an ugly win can certainly hurt us.

We need to have this game over by halftime. No starters playing in the 3rd quarter.

If we beat Wofford like we should, we'll move up 1 - 3 spots. Not necessarily because we beat Wofford but because there are almost certainly teams in front of us that will lose this week.

The way I see it:

We don't need to run it up on Wofford but we do a need a solid win. 35 - 10 would be fine. More is fine but not necessary.
We need to handle Wofford and look fairly good doing it and those ahead of us need to lose. If that happens, we'll move up probably 3 spots minimum, 4 spots most likely, and 5 spots if those ahead of us have disasters. (Unlikely) (3 or 4 spots up is probably right)

That would put us at likely #16, or #15..... With Clemmons looming. We have a shot. Not likely, but it is there. Beat Clemmons and have another couple fall ahead of us, we move up another 3 spots or so.... it's gonna be close.

Edit - We might be that one team on the outside looking in at #13.

I could see us move up if others ahead of us lose but playing Wofford and not handling them decisively could cost us spots if others behind us win. I'm kind of expecting both of those things to make it a wash. At best move up one spot if we play well.
I gotta say I hope we avoid scheduling these type teams from lesser conferences this late in the season in the future. If we have a lot of work to do to finish strong like this year, this schedule makes it harder to get done imo. You caant get a lot of work done if the work isn't out there to do. The final week should be exciting to see play out though. Lots of rivalry games that can go either way. Should be fun to watch.

Unless teams up front lose then there won't be a catalyst for us to move up in the polls.

If we win big, "So what, they were supposed to"
If we win ugly "Hmm, what's up with that ?"

Wont even entertain if we lose.

I can't see a 35-10 win moving us up at all, much less 3-4 spots, unless disaster befalls all the teams in front of us. Pollsters are not going to be watching our game, so how we look is not relevant. All they're going to look at this the score. A 35-19 win would not impress anyone. We MIGHT move up a spot if we destroy them. I don't think we need to go out of our way to do that, though. Get a comfortable lead at half and put the backups in for the 3rd quarter.

Maybe I didn't type out my thought well enough....... My point was winning 35-10 would NOT drop us...... vs say a win on a last second field goal of say....17-14. THAT would drop us....

Now, I'll say it again - If we win solid but not flashy - AND THE TEAMS AHEAD OF US LOSE - We can move up 3, maybe 4 IF SEVERAL teams ahead of us lose.

Even if we were to win 50-0 and no one above us lost - I don't think we move up at all, or maybe 1 spot. That's what I meant.

One or two teams ahead of us may lose.

Probably/Possibly. Army is 18 and they play ND, so they probably lose that one, though you never know. As long as we win by a decent margin, I'd imagine we at least move up to 18. The next 3 teams above us, Clemson, Colorado and A&M all play pretty bad teams. Maybe Auburn at home pulls off the upset over A&M and they tumble and we could bump up to 17.

And should Army win that could possibly bring us down a spot or we stay the same.. Army would certainly move up 4-5 spots, ND could drop 8-10, still placing them 1-2 spots in front of us.
