I find it really surprising that Lincoln Way West is not in the top 10 in 5A. Week one vs Sycamore will tell a lot, but from everything I have heard and read, LWW is one of the favorites in 5A.

Must have forgotten them. I also couldn't believe that Nazareth is not in Mike Helfgot and the Tribune's top 20 when all others have them as high as 3.

LWW is mentioned in "others"...Makes no sense that Naz is not in the top 20, he must have forgotten them. Just shows how ridiculous some of these polls are.

This 8A is better. Although, LA should be ahead of Stevie.

Also, I'm fairly confident that NAZ wouldn't win a game in the CCLB. I don't care how many D1 players they have - NO DEPTH!

I'd rather have 28 real players than 20 players and 20 that are just there to wear the jersey and say they are on the team. I never said Naz was untouchable. They will probably lose this year. Maybe even twice. Does not dismiss them from being a great team.

That is simple terrible. LWW would manhandle half those teams. #3 is exactly where they should be.

One of those 28 is also arguably the most dynamic player in the state this year.

St. Viator in 4A, really? Is the school that small?

Could they make a run?

I believe they get a waiver from the multiplier because they have not won a 1st round football game in last 4 years.

They have to get to the playoffs first.

That's what I was thinking.

And very true, tough schedule for the Lions this year.

Dean is loving the fact that HF is the consensus favorite. MC has been slightly under the radar, and he knows they have the potential for a monster team.

My Belvidere team is going to surprise the 5A. 8 returners on offense 13 returners all together who are just 1 way players. A offense who scored 40 points in 5 times last year. Going to be a fun year

Good luck to your Bucs but at #5 I don't think they will sneak up on anyone! That top part of the rankings will be tough, tough, though to beat!

Was a bit shocked to see them at #5, lost an all-state QB that stirred the drink for them last year. Will learn a lot in weeks 1 and 2....

After reading the 7A rankings, I'm certain that the AP has lost its mind. How is it that Carmel Catholic is not even listed in the "other votes?" They give Grant votes and none for Carmel? Huh? Carmel returns two of the top Division One prospects in Illinois (Tight End Noah Turner and Offensive Lineman Sean Foster), an all conference running back in Rondell Jamison---coming back to a team that went to the second round of the playoffs last year. Yes, their schedule is tough---but it's front loaded. They could go 1-2 to start the year, and still end up finishing 7-2 (easily)....and with a ton of momentum. Major oversight.

I wouldn't pay attention to AP polls quite frankly. LWW has 2 MAJOR D1 kids going to Nebraska and NC State on the line and are in 5A and not top 10? please

I think there is some confusion on LWW with the AP voters. I viewed the AP poll on another site and LWW was listed as receiving votes in both 5A and 6A. That may be the reason they are not ranked higher in 5A.

They didn't win anything...
Show me a team that won everything. Just because they didn't win a title in 6A still does not prove it was difficult. 2 years ago they should have beaten Richards in 6 A semi's last year i really do not see how they manage to win 7 games.
