Shaugnessy is the newest Forde. Total masshole for what he wrote about Cal.

I agree, but Matt, even though he's probably in his early-to-mid 30s (I'm CERTAIN one of his cronies will answer this), acts like and caters his entire website to 17-22-year-old college kids. So it's no surprise, and I'm guessing that the ages of people here that respond in defense of this silly behavior are probably under 25 themselves.

I didn't say Forde doesnt need to be called out. I just don't think getting on the PA at rupp is the best place to do it.

It smacks of Jones wanting attention. If he wants to call him out use his own radio show to do it, not Rupp Arena, that's what I meant.

Forde is a giant d-bag who more than deserves to be called out publicly.

On the other hand, my inclination would be to just ignore him. Acknowledging him at all lets him think he matters.

Only problem I have with him is on this morning show, and the way he handles callers. He interrupts them 90% of the time. Because he is so quick on the trigger, he often goes off on some rant thinking he knows where they are going with something only to be wrong. I would be worse, as I am extremely impatient, but I am not paid to be so.

Not the least bit yoshukai, but Theres no reason for a grown man that represents our fanbase to act like a child either.

I don't think it was professional, theres nothing wrong with having some dignity instead of stooping to fordes level....

What you are saying is Forde is such a low life POS that he is going to punish UK over words some media person says? Is that the way it works?

Let him hate because once you fall to the hatred he has expressed over the years you can't hate anymore. He was not at Rupp to say nice things about Kentucky.

My question is, how did he get in the door? I hope he bought his ticket.

I will be 66 in a little over a month and I enjoyed it. It was on the post game show and he didn't name P.F. He just said a national writer said it a year ago. And I guess P.F. is a national writer and I think it was about a year ago that he said it. He was just telling the truth and sticking up for Cal which should be done. I like Matt Jones's show too. I don't agree with his politics much, but I enjoy his show when I get to hear it!

More people need to be calling Forde out. He's a hack, has an agenda, and isn't called out for it publicly nearly enough. Rupp Arena, just after going undefeated with him in his hated obsessions house was the perfect placed to call him out.

I wish more national writers would call each other out for an obvious agenda and poor journalism, but if they won't i'm glad Jones will.

Forde wrote that infamous article with that now infamous line ("Cal has made his bed now he can sleep in it", or somethin') just after the finish of the regular season last year. In hind sight I would bet half of the basketball world would have agreed with him at that time. Last year we were picked to win it all, and started the season as ranked #1 in the polls. And it was also the season that Cal made the major blunder of suggesting a 40-0 season was indeed possible - not the most humble thing a coach could say. It was also the regular season that ended in what appeared to be a program in disarray. We were not even rated, an 8 seed with 10 losses, and it was the second season in a row that was a train wreck, the previous season ending with12 losses, and an NIT loss. Forde is a jackass, but in that point in time he had every right to write that article. God knows, i'll bet the condo Larry Vaught (the Kentucky *** wipe
) even contemplated writing something similar.

Have you guys forgot all of that dirty part of this soap opera. Pat Forde is a Kentucky distractor we all know that, and he is not alone, there are many others. They simply all have been quieted by Cal's success. Of course Forde will do it again, that is what he does. But for the record and something that everybody has completely forgotton is that after our 5 game run in the NCAAT last year Forde wrote a follow up article apologizing for his words and admitting Cal had, because of those 5 wins, a pretty good season.

Don't accuse me of being a UofL fan, I'm just telling it like it is.

Party on

Yeah, but one is employed with the understanding that he'll at least try to adhere to journalistic standards of objectivity, and fails to do so time and again. The other tells you from day 1 that he's a flaming homer, and gives you exactly what he advertised.

I didn't know that so I went searching for the article that Forde wrote and found it. It says:

"That is great coaching.

Now this needs to be said, too: You're going to the Final Four with a team that is 100 percent of your making, and a team that is almost completely dependent upon freshmen. After providing about 64 games of ammunition since the 2012 title to those who weren't sure one-and-done was a sustainable way to build a program, you've supplied a powerful rebuttal. Three Final Fours in four seasons says that your way works - it works better than any other way currently being implemented in college basketball.

You proved your point, and your team is still playing. How good does that feel?"

Ironically, both Forde and Matt Jones changed their positions about things they said about Cal. I guess that is what it means to be in the media. Just spout off whatever is popular at the time and sometimes have to apologize or back down at a later date.

The fact so many people find this worth commenting on is, on its own merit, a comment. Jones created interest in his action, and in his website. My understanding of what he has said about himself is that he is a UK fan who supports UK teams. He never claimed to compete with the Washington Post.

I think it is great that Matt Jones called Forde out during his post game radio comments which were broadcast over the PA system. He didn't mention Forde by name just by reference to Forde's scathing mean spirited article he wrote this time last year. As as been pointed out in this thread, Forde wound up having to eat his own poison pen words because Cal and the Cats turned it around and wound up in the Championship game. Still, Forde is an arrogant elitist who views himself above the majority of UK fans who he views as being the equivalent of Neanderthals or worse. If you have ever heard him interviewed on radio or TV, you would readily agree.

I'm sure Forde despises Matt Jones because Matt critiques what he writes, something no other media type did until Matt arrived on the scene several years ago. Guys like Forde and others of his ilk love to "dish it out" but they can't take it when someone dishes it back. Historically, other sportswriters and the talking heads on ESPN, CBS and NBC who disagree with a fellow journalists opinion rarely, if ever, challenge the bias or factual basis of such opinion. Apparently, there is code amongst the journalistic brethren that precludes them from challenging one another even when it is justified. Matt Jones has thumbed his nose at such a code and Forde, Feinstein, Thamel, Goodman (the "fellowship of the miserable" to borrow a Bill Curry characterization), hate Matt Jones for holding them accountable.

If I was in MJ's position, I would feel almost obligated to call out douchebags like Forde. The University can't or won't do it and Cal can only go so far. And we know the sports media rarely eat their own. So, who's going to call these idiots out if not MJ?
Those of you worried about how others will perceive the program because of MJ calling a spade a spade....need to grow some balls and eat more red meat.

I agree. It demeans our program.

If he wants to do it during the week on his own show, then have at it.

But you have to give MJ credit, as unprofessional as he is. He attaches his name to a big name that our fan base dislikes, and "presto" the fan base loves him.
