That sucks.

Nutt's career path has taken a huge nose dive. LSU was interested in him, Nebraska wanted him, instead he stayed at Arkansas, was run off, wound up at Ole Miss and is now being run off from them.

Jimmy Sexton said LSU wanted him. Sextons value as an agent will go up before this debacle is over...

I guess maybe if he sees the writing on the wall and thinks if he gets out now he might have a chnace at getting a halfway decent job, where if he sticks around for another year he might ruin his career even more. Still, that's a lot of money to give up for a guy who's headed to aCUSA or worse level schoolfor his next job either way.</p>

Sexton made Boone his ***** when he tried to say Nutt was going to Kansas if he didn't get a raise and contract extension. Boone should have told him that if he's dumb enough to leave the SEC to coach at Kansas go right ahead, but instead he gave Sexton/Nutt everything they wanted with no penalty if Nutt were to leave us for another school.

Allegedly, the buyout does not have to be paid all in one lump sum. As I understand it, we could actually try and drag it out and pay in small amounts over a very long period of time. Money in hand is worth more than accounts receivable. OM is trying to get him to agree to take a smaller amount now than getting a bigger amount over time.

Or does $6 million include interest over a stated period of time, meaning he gets less, at present value, now.

I don't think Nutt is going anywhere, he has more than made enough off the Bears to live comfortably for the rest of his life. I really doubt Sexton will allow the Rev. to take less than the $6 Million buyout, unless he has him another job on the horizon...

The Bears will not be able to hire a decent coach after they way they have treated their last three coaches...

which would be 3 years after he was fired. And it's not like he'd be at much risk of not being able to collect. The only other reason I could think of would be that generally buyouts are reduced by the amount you earn at your next job during the duration of the contract. So, if he thinks he could earn more than $3M in the next 3 years, it might make sense to take the reduced buyout. I don't think many non-BCS programs are paying more than $1M per year though.
