Shepherd is winning team. Can't deny that. They tried to recruit my son and we visited. We both came away saying "no way" but he was also recruited by FBS and FCS schools. Not even on the same planet in comparison and in every way. Even if I had to pay, he wouldn't have gone there.

What was the reason you said "no way"? Just curious, no dog in the fight. My daughter graduated Magna *** Laude with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry and she's now in the DPT program at VCU. Granted, she's smart as hell (like her mother), but she was pleased with Shepherd. And she absolutely loves football.

The Campus. The Athletic and classroom facilities. Right down to the cafeteria. Compared to every other school we saw, they were on the bottom of the list. Unquestionably. no disrespect to your daughter or her accomplishments. She must be quite an exceptional young woman and you have every right to be proud of her.

Oh yeah, that campus is pretty awful and depressing. The food sucked too. My daughter hated the food there!

Appomattox will be good next year, but a year like this past would be extremely hard to duplicate. This was the year many had circled, and it had been circled a long time. This group has played together since 3rd and 4th grade, the core group have always been close. I think it is rare especially in a small community that this many athletes come through at one time and are as close as these guys are. I think that they went undefeated twice at the rec league level, only lost one game as 8th graders with both kelso's playing up on jv , and the 8th grade schedule has a lot of Lynchburg city middle schools plus lca, undefeated there freshman jv, which matt page a then sophomore was qb. I believe phillip Fleshman played varsity along with the kelso's their freshman year. So it is a talented group and when you add coach smith, who wants to build a program and in the process teach these young men about being good football players and good citizens, I think the results speak for themselves.
