Are my eyes deceiving me or is Chris White lightning fast for a linebacker?

Maybe it's just his ability to avoid blocks and pursue the ball, but I've watched him chase down some of the fastest Florida athletes when they are running horizontally. Also, don't forget him chasing down that Houston Wide Receiver from about 20 yards back

That was him leading the convoy on Banks' 100-yard return too. He and McPhee.

I don't know what his 40 time is but, I doubt it's much faster than any other LB we have. I think it's probably a combination of great anticipation and great hustle. I think he and McPhee share those qualities.

I thought that Houston WR was gone for sure and out of no where He chased him down for that tackle. What was impressive was he was gaining 2-3 yds out of every 10 while he was chasing him.

His 40 time may not (or may, I dont know) be worth a ****, but there are always those guys that have "game speed" that is just impressive. They can catch people when they need to and they can pull away when they need to

I was thinking we would slide him to middle after this year and put Skinner or someone like that outside, but he looks like a natural out there on the edge. I am a little surprised we haven't blitzed him off the end more.

banks cut back, and demps lost his balance trying to turn and fell. demps was absolutely flying down the field.

still great hustle by white, and more impressive to me was pernell mcphee sprinting in front of banks to block tebow.

and regarding the houston play - don't overlook the fact that the first man to fall on the fumble was fletcher cox. i'm impressed that a DL would run that far on the play, much less be there to make a play.

White did give Demps a shove right by the goal line; however, he didn't "toss" him as previously stated. In fact, Demps never left his feet.

Edit to add you are correct if you're talking about when Demps fell near mid-field.

which i thought the others were talking about too. during the play, i thought white had shoved demps to the ground at midfield, but upon further review, i realized he didn't get a hand on him there. of course, there was inconclusive evidence, so...

it was impressive that he kept going and shoved demps at the goalline. also impressive was that demps got back up and chased down the play for a second time. he can fly.

the point is still valid, though - chris white is very fast and makes plays all over the field. a couple of times in the mtsu game, he literally got to the ball carrier like he was shot out of a cannon. i like our LBs next year - even though we lose chaney, white and wright will be very good. i just wish they would be seniors in 2011, not 2010 (along with mcphee).

That's all I was saying.

People used to say that Jerry Rice (and to a lesser extent our own Dicenzo Miller) wasn't "fast". But, he had "football speed". He had an ability to get it done on the field that was undeniable. To me, Chris White has that same ... something ... whatever you call it. I wasn't trying to knock the guy at all. I've been a fan of his since juco.

...credited him with running a 4.55 at GCCC. Whether that is accurate or not, I don't know, but four months in Balis' program couldn't have hurt that time, if it was true.
