Unfortunately, we have an AD who has no idea what his coaches are doing and therefore, can't properly assess if they're on the right track. Not to mention, even when it's obvious to a novice, he doesn't have the sack to fire a guy for performance unless 2 things happens - it's absolutely dismal and the fans give up (i.e. attendance).
I know it's protocol to give your guy at least 3 years but in reality, Barney should have fired Clyde after the first year. He "effed up" royally and even an amateur could see that one. Clyde's treatment of the players was bordering abuse, he partied like a frat boy and was a complete asshat to deal with. Clyde had no redeeming qualities and the train was coming off the track. Yet, Barney gave him 2 years and only fired him because of the 2 reasons above.
It's pretty apparent Stoops is not the guy to get it done. He came in as a defensive mastermind and his defenses have been a joke. He hires spread, hurry up coordinators but micromanages their efforts; hence, bad offense. In year 4, his teams still have problems getting lined up correctly, the special teams are still totally disorganized and he's still blaming players.
But we have Barney and if Brainfart gets any hint that he may be able to sell the Stoops experiment for another year or 3, he's going to do this. We still get our SEC welfare check regardless so it's all about having a few excuses to justify keeping his "good guy" around.
There has to be no reasons for Barney to fall back on. Therefore, if you want Stoops gone (like when we knew Clyde had to go), you have to hope he loses.
