Are there going to be speakers on the new scoreboard?

Seems like that might turn into an issue if music is blaring right above your premium box/lodge/club seats.

I heard Stricklin say that there was going to be a new sound system with speakers throughout the stadium, similar to what they did at Dudy Noble a while back.

No way. Makes too much sense.

I noticed that about TD Ameritrade- you could actually hear what was going on with the speakers without it just being unbearably loud.

that's correct. theres going to be "distributed sound"

What does 'distributed sound' mean? How will it differ from current?

All the sound is currently coming from one place, ending up as an acoustic nightmare where there is no way to satisfy everyone. It's either too loud, muffled, etc.... In the future, it will be coming from a bunch of places above practically every section. Since each speaker will be way closer to everyone, it won't need to be nearly as "loud" to sound crisp and roughly identical to everyone in the stadium. It's MUCH easier to setup and maintain in terms of sound quality compared to what we currently have...

I am guessing it will be like sitting in the grandstand at the Dude or the Vaught. Really nice, smaller speakers throughout.

And they can't have them too loud. If they were too loud, you could hear not only "your" speaker, but others a split second later (because of the speed of sound), and that would REALLY be a mess.

it means that tons of smaller speakers will be under every over hang. you can get much clearer sound without "cranking it." and you don't have people that are close to the speakers complaining and people far away saying they cant hear.

Really makes me wonder why they didn't just do that when they built the new screen in '08.

Set up correctly, even turned loud, it should be much better than what we have. The idea likely being that you place the speakers so close together that the speed of sound never really comes into play. I'm not an acoustics engineer -- but I've seen these systems installed at Dudy Noble and at Bryant Denny -- and what you describe has never been a notable issue for me. Not nearly as bad as we currently experience at Davis Wade anyway...

The volume at DNF bothers me more than the volume at DWS.

Distributed sound systems are stupid expensive is probably why. I dont think I have read where they are doing new sound. Maybe I missed it?

Current system sounded awesome for 2-3 years, then muffled for 2 years, then

less muffled the past season or two (and my seats haven't changed during this whole time).

I don't know why it changed, but it really sounded good the first 2 or 3 seasons. Best I had ever heard in a stadium.

I hope we keep the main speakers for loud-on-the-field-sound since the SEC just relaxed the stadium sound rules.
