Are we "behind" in portal pick ups?

So far we only have one portal commitment. That is from an Oklahoma WR that hadn't played in two years.

Should we have more "commitments" by now? I truly don't know. I don't know where other schools stand as I don't follow it too closely. I just know that SC only has the one commitment so far.

I see JC Shurburtt thinks Purdues WR Nitro Tuggle (sp) might be interested in the Gamecocks as well as two OL from LSU. He also thinks Kentuckys nickel Scott might end up at USC.

Tuggle started at UGA, played one year, had 3 receptions, went to Purdue and had a pretty good season (500 yds receiving), now he wants to move again. It sounds like the boy has issues.

In the past, I’d agree with you . . . when a young man couldn’t settle in at a school, it didn’t bode well. Now, with the portal and NIL money, it becomes more complex. Those In the portal now seem to be chasing $$$ or playing time. That’s the norm for many.

Maybe one of these days there will be restrictions but for now, it’s chaotic.

I'm skeptical of anyone with more than one transfer.

It’s a joke most teams are 5 to 10 deep in the portal by now. Beaners no addressing the glaring need st offensive line . He needs to tell the rich boosters to start feeding nil money more if they want to compete next year

Yeah, weighing competing offers. I wouldnt sweat it for a while.
I agree. SC has at least 5 OL visiting, 2 running backs, and 2 wide receivers. How many more visits are in the works is anyone’s guess. Beamer has done well in the past and I don’t see any downgrade with the new coaches adding their experience.

I only see a couple with more than 10. A whole bunch with 5 or less.

He must be chasing money. He played in all 12 games and had 34 receptions for 500 yds. I don't know how much more playing time he could want.

I have no idea what Purdue paid him but it was obviously enough to get him away from UGA (unless Kirby encouraged him to leave). I'm not sure I want a team full of players chasing NIL money.

I hear you. I hate the new college system, too. But I think the days of university loyalty and student-athletes are gone forever. Once agents and money were introduced into college sports, it ruined the game as we knew it.

I agree with you 100% and this is why my interest in college football is a shadow of what it was before. I used to feel a connection to the players because we were both students at my alma mater. Now, they are nothing more than hired help paid to do a job and I have a hard time being very passionate about watching people at their job.

Losses used to haunt me for several days, now, I shrug and move on and don't think about them after a couple of hours.

Having played at UGA, probably has driving issues 🤭

It seems slow all over the landscape. I can’t recall how it unfolded last year but I’d imagine it takes time for athletes to consider all options before making a commitment.
I agree, this is big decision for the players and the coaching staffs, I would rather our coaches take the time to evaluate and then offer, rather than to just players to make some posters on the internet happy

I am not sure I agree with that philosophy, we need to consider circumstances, such as coaching turnover, as we witnessed a great deal this season.

I told a friend this exact same sentiment. These kids don’t care. Makes it hard for me to do the same.

What is the going rate for these kids? What is the range for each position? Anyone know? Life-changing money?

Frankly, I wish athletic scholarships would end. Go the Ivy League route and provide financial aid based on need. I think I'd enjoy college football again as much as I used to. Now? My interest is about 25% of what it used to be.

BTW, we are currently 48th in the Transfer Portal rankings and 11th in the SEC. I'm sure we will move up considerably.

It seems absurd that a player with a 7-figure NIL deal also gets a scholarship.

There should be some kind of formula, like with taxes. If you are making x amount, then your scholarship amount is this much and eventually gets phased out altogether as the earning amount increases.
