Are we really that young?

I keep seeing that we're a young team, but here is the SC depth chart:

http://www.hailstate.com/fls/16800/pdf/fb/fb_notes_msuusc13.pdf?SPID=10997&DB_OEM_ID=16800

Of the 22 offensive/defensive starters listed, here's a breakdown by class:

Soph - 5 (all redshirt Soph)
Jrs - 11 (10 are redshirts)
Srs - 6

I dont know if you can consider guys in their 3rd and 4th year on campus as young. Especially the way we rotate players in/out. There are 11 freshman/R.freshman on the two deep, but that's going to happen. I think if you asked an SEC coach "do you consider a team with every starter in ATLEAST his 3rd year on campus young?" They'd say 'no'.

I'd call a team "young" if a majority of your two deep and/or starters are Sophomores or younger, irrespective of redshirts. They will be at an experience disadvantage against a team loaded with juniors and seniors.

If we've really got 11 freshmen and redshirt freshmen on our two deep and USC has really has none, then that really emphsizes the point.

I think I've seen that South Carolina is ranked the youngest and we are the 7th?? Youngest. I think that's right. They have a senior QB starting with a lot of experience and when he is not in there you can see a difference in the team. I think that makes up for some of their youth.

Which team has the 11 freshmen on the two deep, MSU or USC? I'm confused.

My vague impression without looking at the two deep was that we were not particularly young or old overall, but had some inexperienced players at certain positions regardless of their class.

I count 11 freshmen/Rfreshmen on South Car's two deep including freshmen starting at OC and MLB. That's brutal.

I have a tough time buying the 'we're young on the two deep' argument too, because you don't have to play a player on the two deep if he's not ready. If we don't trust Benquiz Brown, he don't have to play.

Which team has the 11 freshmen on the two deep, MSU or USC? I'm confused.

Both teams have 11 freshmen/Rfreshmen on the two deep listed for last Saturday's game. The link above is to South Car's depth chart (pg. 13).
