Who at espn made the decision to not put this series in prime time? Surely prime time on espn2 is better than this

NBA Finals game 2 is tonight on ABC and Red Sox vs Yankees is on ESPN. The afternoon spot on ESPN2 is the most eyeballs they’ll get.
Gotcha. What was last night? Edited: looks like boxing

It’s college baseball. It’s no where near as popular as you think, or as popular as here on sixpackspeak might lead you to believe.
I wasn’t claiming it was. I just felt like prime time espn2 is better on a Saturday night than 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon.

I don’t know that they’re going to bring in many more viewers than Florida State vs Oregon State. Also, that game is on the West Coast, so it being the later game makes more sense.

And it likely won’t be until they start giving it the same level of ad space they dedicate to softball or the WNBA.
Why would they. Last year’s super regionals averaged 400,000 viewers. This year so far the WNBA has had 22 regular season game with over 1 million. College softball had over 2 million for its championship game last year, while the final championship series for college baseball had not much more than that.

Can we get Caitlyn Clark to play college baseball?

I always thought Arkansas stadium layout was on par with ours and it looked like the upper deck extended farther than ours. After seeing their stadium in the light, I'm not near as impressed and wonder how people can argue theirs is as good or better than ours.

Let’s divide those into two:
1. After years of pumping softball, even with better channels/times, they can’t beat out the CWS without a crappy matchup like Vandy-Michigan.
2. The WNBA was a huge loss leader with no sign of turning around until they got lucky with Clark. 28 straight years of losses, and the jury is still out on if they make a profit this season.

I’d love to have someone check the total loss numbers for those two boneheaded moves. All they have to do to see growth in college baseball is swap the treatment with softball. Would love to see what would be possible with the WNBA-level…

The WNBA was founded in 1997. The first softball championship was in 1982. The first college baseball game was played in 1859. College baseball has had more than its chance to be popular. Nobody cares outside of sixpackspeak.

How is the WCWS getting better channels and times? Up until a couple of years ago, they were playing at least one of those games on a weekday afternoon.

I swear, some of you guys get way too in your feelings about the idea that women’s sports could do well.

That's not a true baseball upper deck.

Since we’re measuring success via ESPN, I’m afraid we’re stuck with 1979 onward.

Better channel slots (ABC over ESPN, 2 over U, etc) and prime time vs not. Both editions have more than one weekday afternoon game as standard, so that’s not a differentiator.

I had some comparison numbers to demonstrate a couple of years back. If I have time I’ll see if I can reassemble them.

Their stadium can’t even “identify” as being as good as ours. But, don’t tell their butthurt fans that. They get triggered pretty damn easily.

I would love to see your research. I just went back and looked at the MCWS vs WCWS finals back to 2018 and found that the WCWS finals had 0 games appear on ABC, while the MCWS had 1. WCWS had a 2 pm Thursday game in 2021. MCWS had 0 weekday afternoon games. Every MCWS afternoon game was on a weekend. Between both, outside of the ABC game for the MCWS, all games were either on ESPN or ESPN2.

I’m not sure what it is that you’re seeing to say that college softball is getting more love from ESPN than college baseball, but it’s got to be splitting hairs.

Their stadium is not near as impressive walking into it. We drove by Fayetteville on the way to the CWS in 2021 and I walked inside their stadium. It doesn't come close to DNF.

You are a man on a mission. I gotta hand it to you, when you get hold of a bone, you do not let that thing go. You're like a rottweiler my neighbors had in college. Apropos of nothing, they eventually had to put him down.

I may end up having to recompile.
This isn't restricted to finals.

My daughter is in school at Arkansas right now so I have had the opportunity to go to a few games there. To me it is a nice stadium but what sets the Dude apart from being a significantly greater stadium is the outfield. Their outfield looks like some crap you would find at a 3A high school stadium with a few campground bbq grills they took from a renovated state park. The reason they think their stadium is the best is b/c they announce "The Best Stadium in College Baseball" about a dozen times during a game. Until they do something with the outfield it isn't in the same league as MSU or LSU. They would be better off going to Home Depot and getting some planters and put them in the outfield like OM and then thump their chest like they have something to throw beer on.

Best we can do is Angel Reese retrieving her own foul balls.
