Some of the discussion on other threads about our perceived disadvantage on the road at certain SEC venues got me to thinking about Arkansas' basketball tradition since it joined the conference. Was it a fluke that Ark was dominant in the early-mid 90s under Nolan Richardson? I know he flamed out at the end of his tenure, but they had back-to-back NCAA Champ game appearances and 1 NC from 94-95 if I recall correctly. They were awesome. What happened? Their program doesn't even seem to have aspirations of being elite now. I find that strange given how delusional their fan base is with their football expectations. On a side note, Nolan was looking ooooooolld the other night on TV, like Morgan Freeman's much older brother.

Arkansas has to recruit nationally to land any talent. The state of Arkansas is USUALLY void of basketball talent. RIchardson was able to do just that. RIchardson was able to recruit Memphis, Texas, and was lucky enough to have a couple of the best players to have come out of Arkansas in the early 90s. He caught lightning in a bottle during the early 90s in my opinion.....even though they had been to the F4 earlier. Anyway, their down fall was Larry Finch taking over at Memphis and keeping the talent there. Also, RIchardson got older. Mike Anderson left when RIchardson was fired and the rest is history.
