How do you see Mullen approaching this game? Do we play with the 1b approach or a dress rehearsal for bama? Personally I think we should go full speed in this game with essentially a bye week next to rest

is the next game and the most important one for now. Mullen is who he is and will put you in danger of a heart attack at times.

Full speed and rest next week.

Another question - Do we rest Dak - if he is indeed somewhat injured - for UT-Martin? Play the 1st quarter and sit? Or is this a Heisman padding stats game.

Would guess is he'll play UTM with the "no scrambling" governing factor as he did against USM. Additional work on pocket passing + limited contact = Productive day for Prescott

Treat UTM like an NFL 2nd preseason game... no matter how healthy or unhealthy Dat is. He plays two series, maybe three if either of the first two series didn't end with scores. And little if any rushes while he is in there. This should be a glorified scrimmage to keep him sharp in the passing game.

1. Arkansas is an SEC, full speed, 110%, relentless effort game. Dak comes out if we are up by 21 in the 4th.

2. UT-M is a "limited" Dak game. Play the first 2 series, scripted, full speed, like we always do and like we will against Bama. Then let him finish the first half with a pocket passer role, no scrambling.

All in for the Arkansas game and 3 quarters of homecoming. This is assuming nothing is major wrong. He has a good rythem going right now. No need to disrupt that by barely playing him.

Ark ain't gonna just roll over.............

they've got the biggest Oline in all of football and two really good backs. Allen's passing stats are comparable to Dak's. Their D has struggled at times and at times has held a team like bama to 14 pts.

Mullen knows all this and will give them the respect they deserve. We'll play them like the SEC team that they are.

Really hope we come in fired up for this game. This is a good Arkansas team we are playing and they can beat you in a heartbeat.

Play Dak for a half against UTMartin. I think the two early bye weeks made him a little off against Kentucky. Just about all his throws were high. Keep him in rhythm.

If we aren't ready we will get beat. This is the SEC and there are no gimmes.

I think our team knows this.

Why don't people understand this 1B thing?

As long as the game is tied (in the beginning) or we have a lead we WILL rotate the 1A and 1B defense. While it can be frustrating at times this is absolutely brilliant. Look at what happened to Ole Miss at LSU. Those guys have been playing tons of snaps and it's starting to wear on them. The injuries are starting to pile up, the 4th quarter is starting to get really hard. While our defensive rotation is keeping guys fresh until the end of the game, but more importantly keeping them fresh to the end of the season. It also has the added benefit of us going into the next season with guys who are battle tested.

I get as frustrated as anyone else but so far it is working. When things get tense they put in 1A and they shut **** down. We get a two score lead and 1B is back in the game. I think toward the end of the season we are going to see this strategy pay off big time. All this to say, my answer is let's keep doing what we are doing!

Arkansas isn't Vandy. I'm not even sure they're UK. We match up well with them and should control the game and win if we show up to play, but we have to show up and play to do it. We can probably rotate 1A and 1B for more than we would against top SEC teams, but we can't treat the game like a scrimmage. If we get up by 21, we can mix our 1B on offense in early, but honestly I'd rather push the 1A's until we get up by 28 (which I think would only happen with our A game on both sides of the ball) and then put the 1B's on offense in or keep the 1A's in until it's late enough in the game that 21 points is insurmmountable and we can take the 1A's out and keep them out. .

Yep, but I'd rather see us put 1a for the last 5 minutes of the game if we aren't winning by more than 2 scores.

I don't mind playing 1b's. I just want to start mixing them in with 1a's.

That kind of defeats the whole purpose of keeping a whole unit fresh. If you think you wouldn't have as much drop off doing that, then I disagree. We are going up against good offensive coordinators and they will attack the weak part of the defense. To me the 1A doesn't have a glaring weakness so no need to sub in some 1B's to give that unit one. I like knowing when the 1A comes in they are fresh and dominate the line of scrimmage and get a stop.

Plus it's not like the 1B give up a score every time they are in. They hold their own. I think against A&M they were responsible for 3 TO's

It seems like a good matchup but like last year, we have a turnover or something like that and it can go to the wire.

Dak's YPA is almost 2 yards higher. His QB Ratings are all pretty significantly higher too.

Most of Arkansas's passing attack are short tight end routes and swing passes. We should defend them very well. They aren't a spread team that's going to put fast guys all over the field. They are LSU with a better O-Line, a better QB, but worse receivers.

If Allen is throwing the ball a lot, we're probably going to win.

They still haven't won an SEC game yet. They are going to play people close by playing ball control and running clock, but they have to be able to run the ball to do that, something we're very good at containing. They don't play up tempo either, so we'll be able to swap in fresh bodies if they are driving.

Beat them early and don't give them any reason for motivation to continue. I get the 1a and 1b stuff. It is nice and all but we are in a push right now for the championship playoffs. I'll be damned if we look back and say we could have just played our starters to win this game. The stakes are too high.

Put it out of reach in the first half and then bring em in. 28-0 at halftime is a good goal for our staff.

Can't say that State fans have ever been known for their football IQ.

If State isn't behind the curve in everything football, State's fans aren't happy.

Our defense

Our defense can stop there run game. And that is all they have. We will make them throw it and they arent proficient there. We should have game in hand mid third quarter then 1B enters

State's been playing 1A DL with 1B LBs, 1A CBs with 1B DBs. They've been deploying the best groups in the 4Qtr irrespective of unit.

Really?...

Our defense can stop there run game. And that is all they have.

They throw the ball for 199 yds per game. We throw it for 258. .....Let's not act like they don't know how to complete a pass.

Preasure

They wont have over 125 passing and it will come late..once we play 3 down and relax the preasure. they will be in desperation mode and we will be playing loose on the corners.

I would rest Dak...

My priority of potential season rewards going forward would be:

Make playoffs
Heisman Trophy Winner
SEC Championship Game
Beat Ole Miss

MSU is #1 in the country in every poll including the early playoff scenario, you play as if you're the #1 team no letting up PERIOD. It's a no brainer play for 4 quarters until the game is over. Honestly this shouldn't even be a discussion. Bury Arkansas into submission, no other game matters just this one.

The Razorback fans here seem to think they are going to get thrashed by us. I hope it happens since I'll be there with several of my friends who are die hard fans of the Razorbacks. They all seem to have packed it all in and given up on this season and can't wait for the next. The fact that Brandon Allen was quoted saying that he doesn't think the cowbells will bother them much is laughable to me. I don't think any of them realize how loud it will be in our first home game as #1 in a night game. I say we load the box and dare them to throw on us. If they beat us through the air then kudos to them but I don't think they can do it
