What is it about Arkansas's offense that gets people so open down field, and yet we have struggled to complete passes 20+ yards? Is it just a QB or WR talent issue, play calling, coaching?

I've thought the last 2 years that even though Arkansas was better than us, our talent levels across the board was similiar. (except QB) However, their WR get wide open, even against Bama and LSU.

They have tall receivers that can stretch the field, and more than 1 really good receiver so defenses can't double or attempt to take 1 guy away. They also have a great QB that can get it downfield, and a good pass blocking line. Good pass catching RB's and a good receiving Tight End help too. I would say we are closer to that type of offense than we have ever been in my lifetime, right now. Russell has the skills, Morrow has the size at WR, we have some senior WR's that need to step up, a good pass catching TE when Johnson returns, Perkins is a great pass catching RB, and the OL is yet to be determined. I think the big key will be our WR's getting open, and OL giving Russell time. If those two things happen, we could have a special year.

Petrino is obviously one of the top offensive minds in the game, but talented receivers help a lot.

It makes me laugh how many people think our problem is at the WR coaching position. We have run the same 4-5 guys out there for 3 years under 2 WR coaches and 2 different QBs and they cannot get open. Meanwhile, we've either missed on or had to redshirt all our top WR targets in recruiting. None of this is a coincidence.

Give Russell Jarius Wright, Joe Adams, and Cobi Hamilton and our passing game skyrockets even if everything else stays the same.

The guys we got committed for this years class look like SEC receivers. I'm hoping Morrow lives up to the expectation, but even the threat of a tall receiver is something we haven't had. I really hate Malcolm Johnson got hurt, he's gonna be really good before he leaves.Hopefully Morrow and Green can stretch the field enough to give Jameon Lewis and our 5 seniors some space.

That the differences in OL last year were ~50% of the equation. Go back and review last years game and compare the pressure on 'our' QB and 'their' QB. I don't think we ever laid a hand on Wilson the entire game.
