He's an ******* and a ****** human being. He survived cancer, then when Sheryl Crow was diagnosed with it, he up and left and broke off their engagement. Nice. He's also reportedly an atheist (ok, "agnostic" which is just a nice way of saying atheist), which is pretty disgusting to me when you consider what a lucky SOB he is. Plus, he cheats. (just because all cyclists do it doesn't make it ok)

So, no I can't stand the guy.

Didn't he also leave his wife after she had stuck by him through his cancer?

and the for the sole reason that I hate watching any athlete dominate any sport over a given period of time. Just always killed me. I think its the natural underdog side of me that comes with being a state fan.

That being said, I do respect his streamlined (one balled) roid using ***

that makes sense for you not liking someone dominating. seriously.

i usually don't get too wrapped up in the personal lives of the athletes unless it becomes a major distraction (arrests, etc.). what i do get pissed about is when they are grade A jackasses on the court/field/road/whatever. i realize that the sport of cycling doesn't have much room to do an endzone dance but i just don't see him as that type of athlete. but of course i could have missed it too.

it's just damn hard for me to absolutely hate a guy who consistently whips the *** of all of his competitors in his respective sport and he does it seemingly without being a total jackass about it.

Dumped her and his two kids for Sheryl Crow. Add that to the list. He's a first class piece of garbage. Everyone worships him because he survived cancer. It could be a great inspirational story, but he's turned it into a huge ego trip instead of maybe being a little humbled by it and how lucky he is. Goes back to the whole atheist thing. The media makes it worse - they won't say anything bad about him because of the cancer thing. It is possible to both be a cancer survivor and a dickhead.

You can't say anything negative about him, even if it's true. As a cyclist, I like him. Otherwise, he's a dick. There are lots of other great American cyclists to root for.

That and he is an American that won at a sport that was dominated by Eurowienies. He is a heck of an athlete and all, but that captures my interest about as much as professional bowling.

I don't think he has a chance to win the Tour this year but he is an amazing athlete. Anyone that doesn't think so has never tried to ride a bike over 30 miles at a time.

As far as his personal life, who gives a damn? I gave up trying to believe in athletes as decent role models a long time ago. 90% of professional athletes are scum bags on one level or another.

Maybe if some of Crooms Character Recruits were only worth a **** and could become pros we would have some guys to support.

The fact that the French hate him makes me like him. He can come off smug at times, and it's cycling, so I really don't care that much, but the fact that he owns the record for the race that the French love, and the fact that they want to bring him down so badly makes me want him to keep sticking it to them.
