Some of you guys seem to stay in your emotions. The vast majority of fans would say Arnett was one of our better DC in recent years. He got forced into a position that didn’t work out under unfortunate circumstances. And yes of course Lebby is on the hot seat and that impacts who we can hire .So all in all this might be the best hire possible under the circumstances.

Also, with all the complaints about every coach, AD, and President I would love to hear if some of you have liked any of the men that we have ever had in any of these positions.
You are correct. And it’s an upgrade.

But this is still a big clown show.

I can’t decide how I feel about this. Yes, the Leach offense helped his numbers. But we looked pretty solid on defense most of the time.

He wasn’t a great recruiter but that’s not as important now.

We can probably pay him next to nothing while knowing he should deliver a competent defense.

You also always hope a new coach can bring a couple of players and that’s not going to happen here.

This is really weird and unexpected

I, for one, liked:
Dr. Zacharias
Jackie Sherrill
Watson Brown
Joe Lee Dunn
Greg Byrne
Dan Mullen
Manny Diaz
Bob Shoop
Mike Leach

Lebby’s extreme tempo on offense + his inability to sustain drives (most three-and-outs in SEC) turns off turns off ambitious coordinators chasing the resume building ranks. Lebby’s side of the ball causes quick turnarounds for the D + lack of quality depth = amplifying fatigue and mistakes, which makes the D look worse. So because of this Lebby’s DC position is hard to fill

Arnett was a decent DC....but he also was around when the level of talent we had on defense was falling off a cliff. We will see how his numbers look when he isn't benefiting from the slow moving Airbone keeping his defense off the field.

What a joke. The only reason we have this current coach struggling is because of this guy we are about to rehire. He didn’t have to agree to become the HC after leach but please beg me to spend more and donate more to these decisions. This is a cohen type decision right here.

Weird GIF

99% loved him as our previous DC. Most understood making him HC for consistency and to lock him down. Now some don't want him back as DC??? Because of the situation we're in, it would be a very good hire.

Many of these names are in the distant past and I would agree with the list but at the same time we seem to romanticize the past. Most of the people on that list other than Dr. Z were complained about by a significant portion of our fans while they were here.
Sometimes it’s easier to look back and appreciate something than in the present.

If you think 62 and 40 are good rankings for total defense you should be happy. Not great but beats 118 and 95 like a red headed stepchild. And the blitzing will be legendary.

No doubt he's an upgrade over Hutz, but it's typical MSU shopping at the Dollar General again. Maybe the money we're saving will buy a DT.

The difference is that Arnett was doing it with someone else's recruits ...he was asleep at the wheel on recruiting....Hutzler inherited 5 count them, 5 scholarship D linemen.. and not a one would make another SEC roster much less play ...

His year 3 here was pretty solid. Let’s not act like he had 5 NFL players on that defense.

Plus Matt Brock. Who I liked also. So no complaints but it's just so unbelievable. Spurrier Junior is out there somewhere. Grab him too. Make it a reunion tour

My only issue with it is him being unemployed he doesn’t have players to bring with him.

From a pure experience and defensive gameplan/coaching he is a massive upgrade from Hutzler the problem is still and forever will be players. We have to sign real SEC caliber difference makers in the portal.

This is one of the most Mississippi State hires we could have possibly made. So why should it be a surprise?
Right when we should be taking advantage of current situation of turnover and coaches at other school we continue to **** the bed. Just proves Lebby is on thin ice. His coaching circle is really small and nobody wants to work for him if this is true. That or Keenum keeps sticking that plastic nose where it doesn't belong.
Arnett was a decent DC but he wasn't amazing and his defensive recruiting left us screwed there.

This just proves the same boosters are in charge who fired Leachs staff and installed point man Brad Peterson. Now they are bring Arnett back despite his personal problems, lol
