he actually tore his ACL, or is it like Mark Sanchez "tearing his ACL" last fall?

Has it been confirmed?

If Perkins can come in and do the things we expect him to do, I dont think this will hurt us as much, especially if Dixon and Ducre can stay in shape and continue running as well as they have been. However, Arnil was a good pass catcher, and its always good to have as many options as you can, especially when we need more pass catchers. Arnil would have probably found his way in motion out of the backfield because of how good he can catch, and now we lose that a little. Tough loss and I hate it for him, because he was probably our most effective running back down the stretch last year.

or am I confused with somebody else? Is there anyway we can somehow petition the NCAA to grant him a redshirt because his coach was a complete 17ing idiot?

...having had ACL replacement surgery (twice now, on the same knee).

Rehab was a cast iron *****...

Sanchez never "tore his ACL". He had a patellar subluxation (dislocated patella).

two reconstructions, one knee. i wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

rehab, for me, was much worse the second time around than it was the first - and the first wasn't all that bad. perhaps it was because the first used a hamstring tendon, and the second was the patellar tendon.

Yup, that's my situation. Complete reconstruct in '89 (when they didn't know how to do it) which finally failed this past winter.

Just had the same knee rebuilt back in February and 8 weeks into my rehab (again). Couldn't use my own tissue this time, as they so screwed up my patella back when. Now, I've got OPT (Other Peoples' Tendons) in my knee, which means the rehab goes a lot slower now, in order to not aggravate the graft and suffer a rejection. (Which would SUCK!!!)

Feels a lot more stable now than after the last time, so maybe they got it right. Still, it's 12-18 months before I can really trust it again, which is a pretty significant percentage of a college SEC-caliber player's lifetime. (Note that smoothly executed sports-related segue, eh?)

Sucks to be told you have to take it slow and easy for a whole year when you're in that kind of shape, at that age, with all the options that being in college makes available...I definitely feel for him.

12-18 months sounds like a long time. i thought allografts were supposed to allow for faster rehab, since you aren't also having to rehab whatever tissue they took to make your new ACL. maybe, when it is a second reconstruction, they want you to take it more slowly.

stallworth's down time shouldn't be so long. when i had my first ACL (7 years ago), i was cleared to do whatever i wanted after 6 months, and after 12 months i didn't need the brace. of course, i wasn't playing D1 tackle football. i had my second one three years ago. two different doctors said it was just bad luck - the second one was supposed to be stronger than the first. well, now i'm on ACL #3. no more sports with cleats for me, just basketball and softball with turf shoes. and i'm still wearing my big expensive don-joy (like you see OL wear). if i have another one, i'll be using OPT too...

best of luck on your rehab. if i could suggest anything, i'd say go above and beyond on the rehab, and don't stop the exercises when you are released from rehab. </p>
