I don't think anybody other than someone familiar with Ole Miss or its "peculiar" ways could succeed there. It's a place where, other than Johnny Vaught, coaching careers have gone to die.<div>
</div><div>Everyone forgets that Steve Sloan was the hottest coach in the country when Ole Miss hired him. Before attending Ole Miss, he won everywhere he went. Yet, by the time he left Oxford, he was considered a loser. Why? Ole Miss turned him into a loser. Same with Houston Nutt- he was always a winner until he came to Oxford, and had all the winning sucked out of him.</div><div>
</div><div>Art Briles wouldn't succeed there because he's succeeded in Texas (where even the second-level and third-level talent is as good as Mississippi's Dandy Dozen), at schools with few expectations of success and fan bases that aren't borderline psychotic. At Houston and Baylor, Briles had one Offensive Coordinator and one Defensive Coordinator each- at Ole Miss, he'll have about 2,000 OC's and DC's and he better listen to each and every one of them, or else there'll be hurt feelings and "I'll never give to Ole Miss again".</div><div>
</div><div>Mark Hudspeth is the only coaching hire I'm afraid of- he could be hired cheap, he's a winner, and he knows Mississippi.</div>
