<span class="pp"></span>"Dunn enjoyed an outstanding career at Auburn, earning All-America honors as a senior after batting .379 with a Southeastern Conference-leading 86 RBI. He helped lead the Tigers to return trips to Tallahassee in regional and super regional play in 1998-99, but each time was turned away by the Seminoles.</p>

<span class="pp"></span>Dunn hasn't had much luck at Howser Stadium, but he's determined to change it this weekend.<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>Dunn is in his eighth season at Samford, which has advanced into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history after it captured the Southern Conference Tournament title last Sunday.<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>The No. 3 seeded Bulldogs (39-21) open the four-team, double-elimination tournament Friday at noon against No. 2 seeded and SEC Tournament champion Mississippi State (39-22). No. 1 FSU (43-15 ) meets No. 4 and Conference USA Tournament champion Alabama-Birmingham (32-28) in the second game at 6 p.m.<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>Dunn likes his team's approach, one that mixes quality pitching and a prolific offense with a strong-willed attitude.<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>Starters Josh Martin, former Lincoln High standout Charles Basford and Kyle Putkonen have combined to go 24-8. Martin's 12 wins are tied for the lead nationally with Arizona State's Trevor Williams and Texas-Arlington's Lance Day. Outfielder Brandon Miller leads the country with 22 home runs and is 16th nationally with 63 RBI.<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>Samford beat Birmingham neighbor UAB twice this season along with national No. 1 seed Florida and NCAA Tournament qualifier Oklahoma. The Bulldogs last played Mississippi State in 2007 and FSU in 1989.<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>"We have some really good college players, and it's an awesome group of kids who have genuinely transformed the mentality of the baseball players here at Samford," said Dunn, who has posted 30-plus wins in six of the past seven seasons.<span class="aa"></span></p>

<span class="pp"></span>"These kids expect to win, and they expected to be right where they are (this weekend)."<span class="aa"></span></p>
