Bad example. Dak didn't "blow up" until his 4th year, and he had his own decision to make at that point. He decided to come back to school, and be coached under Mullen one more year. He wasn't going anywhere else, a guy with that level of maturity isn't jumping at any opportunity just because. He could have gone elsewhere anyway, as a grad transfer.

It's still about football to most of these guys. That matters more than these piddly NIL deals.

I'm DEFINITELY not an authority on what goes on in college students' minds but it will be interesting to see how this effects the relationships of these play-for-pay "student athletes" with the rest of the student body both on and off campus and in the stands. I was lucky enough to be in school back in the "stone age" but this is a totally (BIG TIME) new set of dynamics.

At the end of the day, the top teams today will still be the top teams tomorrow, but the difference now is that the blue bloods will never have a “down period” again. We all knew it was coming. But with no rules or limits and no real watchdog organization in charge here at the start of this I think we can anticipate the "Wild, Wild West" bidding wars along with the over and under the table incentives that often make and brake such big dollar deals.

They had plenty of time to come up with a solution that would have kept SOME integrity and a MODICUM of an attempt to level the playing field, but they blew it and now this monster has been created. How long before this trickles down to the HS level? I'm a coach, have been for over 20 years, and played sports all of my life. I love the values and lessons I learned from sports. But it's about to all be unwatchable for me, personally.

This was the most likely conclusion to a system that tried to fight tooth and nail an obvious outcome. The amount of money going into the sport but not going into the hands of the people playing the sport was always going to end up being deemed unfair by the courts.

It was always smarter to put together a system where all this under the table money was being routed in a way that did not affect competition. If we had allowed that money to be routed to salaries and other compensation that was monitored and regulated and put in pro competitive rules, we could have skirted this.

Instead we tried to dam up the MS River instead of building levees to control the flow. The money was always going to, and already making it to the players, but now it’s a **** show. Enjoy the result of pissing in the wind.

GPA is a good point. If some guy who’s never had anything starts making $100k a year, what are the chances he makes classes by his junior year?

Mike Leach nor the universities have control over the nil or the players deals. So it would be up to the individual player to decide to share their money.
