both sides are at fault. If Turner wanted to play, he should have sought Stansbury to tell him in every way possible.

But now, Stansbury is damned if you do or damned if you don't. If
he responds in the media, it's going to look bad because some will say
it should be handled internally. If he doesn't, some will say a public
explanation is deserved.

Don't get me wrong. He should have
notified Turner initially in another form besides a letter but now that
the milk is spilled, whichever way Stansbury handles it is not going to
look good.

And lastly, of course, I don't follow other basketball programs but **** - why is our always a soap opera?

1. How do Turner and Stansbury go without talking since the NC game? Thats crazy

2. It's frustrating that we keep losing good players and solid contributors year after year...we now have lost 5 of our top 8 players from last year while only having 2 freaking Seniors on that team (will fall back to 4 if Dee is reinstated)

3. The lack of communication has caused this to be drama when it could have easily been avoided. There is obviously a problem between the players and Stansbury- probably not all players, but with a good many from last years team. Turner has been a guy that has busted his *** on the court for us- but now suddenly he was lazy and a problem? I dont buy it. Why was there lack of communication between Bost and Stansbury? If I am the coach, I have had at least an hour meeting with him talking about all the different scenarios and rules that affect him going forward. Why didnt that happen? It clearly didnt from what we have seen since.

17'ing ridiculous

Last night I said "unless Turner is blatantly lying and bitter" this one was on our staff.<div>
</div><div>Well, Turner was blatantly lying and bitter. This one is on Kyle Veazey. I like his work, and he's a good guy, but he blew it open before collecting the facts.</div>

If you think Kyle Veazey is a perfect human being. He's a great beat reporter, I'll give him that. He'll probably move on from the CL like Sekou, Ian, etc.. and go to a big market before he's even 30. But he played the scoop card last night and it backfired. Stansbury was made to look like an *******, when in reality, Phil Turner made it clear he didn't care anymore as soon as the season was over. No show for meetings... Telling players and staff he wasn't coming back... And then KV actually believes him when he says "I don't know where those rumors came from?" Awfully naive. Must be the summer wearing on him. Not enough news to make headlines.

Whoa, guy...when did I say Veazey was a perfect human being? I can't speculate on that, because I don't even know the guy. But he did what he was supposed to do...report the news as he found out about it. If you go back and read the Blog again, he makes it very clear that his info from last night was just one side of the story, and says that he will report Stansbury's response as soon as he gets it. Due to the timing of the news, it wasn't possible to get Stansbury's response until this morning, but it was still Veazey's job to report this story when it broke last night.

Being the first to report something is great, but it isn't ethically sound until you report the issue from a balanced perspective. Or at least try. Expecting a response from Stans that late at night is a little pressing. I realize such reporting is a product of the times we live in, the technology we have access to, and the way we communicate with each other, but it doesn't all of a sudden excuse professional journalism. He has to realize that his twitter account, his blog, his... word, essentially, carries enough weight, to warrant waitingon a story like this. That's all I'm saying.<div>
</div><div>You're probably not an idiot. I just felt like using that. But hey, it's over now. The story is out. Turner played hard but ended up acting like a quitter. He isn't a superstar. Stans cut him loose. Maybe it wasn't the fairest way of handling it, but that's the nature of the game. Moving on...</div><div>

Turner was ready to go on record. It's his job to report. If Turner believes it's true, then he should report it. He quoted Turner. Once again, Veazey is not a fan site.

I'd say contacting the player for his side of the story of it IS COLLECTING THE FACTS....Rick had his chance to respond last night and choose not to..that looks bad on him.
No matter who's side you are on or if you believe it is somewhere in the middle..this situation was a huge cluster-<17> and should of been handled better.

means "ready to go on record" then I guess I'm just not a fan of the times. Turner's always been "ready" to say all kinds of ****. Kyle knows this. I just think it was blown out of proportion. Kind of like my argument against Veazey. But that's what message boards are for, right? I don't want to bash on him anymore, because I think he's a good person. It just pissed me off that this was a story (soap opera, as you said) to begin with.

His job is to find out the story. Turner was willing to talk and Stansbury would not return phonecalls. He did what he was supposed to do.

How do we lose one of our most experienced returning seniors & not know about it until Phil breaks it on his facebook page? If it was such common knowledge that Phil had been let go (like the coaching staff would lead us to believe) then when were we (fans) going to find out? First day of practice? You would think a statement would have been issued before it got this out of hand. Horrible lack of communication. This crap should never happen. The day it was decided Phil wouldn't be brought back, it should have been communicated directly to him... not a 17'n letter, and then a statement should have been released. I mean, we get statements about freshmen football players that never step on the field not coming back - that's on a football team with 50-60 returning players. We're talking about a basketball team with less than 10 guys returning.

From all accounts, our athletic department hasknown this was coming for quite some time. Therefore, you would think that Greg Ellis or somebody in media relations would have had a canned statement ready to go even before Turner had a chance to give his side. You would think that media relations would try to control the story. Instead, they issue no release, and after Turner goes public, Rick doesn't answer the phone and Greg Ellis refuses to comment? Like dawgstudent, I believe there is fault on both sides here; but I have a hard time understanding how MSUfailed totake ownership of this story before Phil Turner did.
