but I would have to go with your second choice. That Mario Austin three tied the score at the buzzer with UK after being down something like 35-6 and clawing our way back.

I don't know if I remember him having a big dunk against LSU. I do remember the vicious throw-down he had against McNeese State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament that year, though. Anybody still got that picture?

...Cameron Burns wasn't called the "Human Highlight Machine" for nothing.

And I seem to remember an approximate 40-point blowout of Ole Miss in 1996 that had more "highlights" than a dentist's office.

That's the only game in which I ever saw Super D dunk the ball (and just barely at that).

That was crazy sick that night with ESPN broadcasting. I swear he got his whole body even with the rim.

Best in a game was Z against USM in that NIT game. They had a tall center who was supposed to be all world and he got a facial. Never seen USM fans get so pissed after that dunk.

Didn't he actually miss the dunk that was shown on air? I remember him making it and the ESPN people getting pissed because they were at commercial. I think he tried the same dunk again and missed it.

...he did miss the attempt that was on the air.

Even so, '96 was a great year for the obvious reasons. Although this is subject to a "Buy/Sell" topic, it was MSU's best job at living up to the pre-season "hype." I seem to recall SI's pre-season rankings that year had us at #3 or #4.

...an Arkansas player in 1994, and separating his shoulder at mid court by setting a screen.

(For the record, #1 Arkansas was laid to rest in that game 72-71....in a SRO at tthe Hump....)

and it was amazing. i think they were in a 2-3, and he got the ball at the top of the key. drove down the middle and absolutely flew. i think he dunked that on stromile swift.

speaking of stro, he had the most impressive dunk i've seen. may have been the same game. it was at the hump. stro had the ball on offense and went down. state fast break the other way, but lsu gets the ball back. stro was snowbirding, and was all alone when he got the ball. he took only one step and threw down the biggest windmill i've ever seen.

did anyone go to midnight madness Z's freshman year? there were some monster dunks thrown down that night between Z and gholar.

was Varnado's three last year against LSU. Everyone was pulling their hair and bitching until the ball finally bounced around the rim long enough to fall thru. The whole entire Hump was shocked

at Madison Square Garden. The scene: MSU vs Xavier. The play: The alley-oop slam by Zimmerman and Bowers. Beautiful! Wrap it in maroon & white 71 -61.

The thing I'll always remember about that game is we looked great and jumped on Xavier pretty early and one point you could hear one of the announcers say "these guys are damn good" under his breath as they were cutting to commercial. I believe this was Mario's first game back from the NCAA's early season witch hunt against him/us that came up empty.
