As expected, Hobbs and his search committee took a rather conservative approach as opposed to the big splash.
While we all might have wanted something different, Chris Ash brings something most of us probably downplayed -- coming from a very successful lineage of successful programs. I, personally, would have preferred someone with Head Coaching experience. Since that was not the case, we did the next best thing -- take a coordinator from a very successful program. I think Georgia just did the same thing.
Ash's assistant hires will be interesting and be more of sign of what is to come for our beloved. While the head coach is important, his ability to identify coaching talent is critical in the development of young men, not to mention game plans. What remains to be seen is that person, whomever it should be, that can keep the talent home. I am not looking for all of the talent to stay, but landing 6-8 of the top 25 is not too much to ask as time goes on. We can't be giving away the likes of Minkah and Peppers while we have DB deficiencies (just an example).
As I had pointed out in prior posts, while we all have differences in what we wanted in a coach, I think this hire allows us to rally around and truly support this team; our team. The future is there and attainable. Chris Ash, please seize the opportunity. We are behind you 100%.
