Not a big fan of this hire. I will support it , but I believe we will be posting a lot of 'ash will get us smashed ' on this board in years to come .
Remember plum street coined the term' flood the dud ' before the 2012 season .
I hope I am proven wrong and 'ash won't get us smashed '. Time to get behind the new coach , even if I don't believe .
Great read on the man so far you have been 100% correct.

Syracuse wins tonight . Sure looks like you were right sir !
Keep on beating that dead horse. It hasn't been beat enough. We get it, you were right, but WTF is repeating it going to do now. At this point, it will not make any difference until 2020 when we start thinking of a new coach.

Let’s hope the RU Administration wakes up and fixes this sh#tshow before we become totally irrelevant and afterthought for P5 level recruits and the Fanbase is decimated.

And will continue until at least 2020. We all have to just deal with it.
well thats not 100% true.
There are more then several insiders that say Hobbs was approached by a group of Ru boosters willing to buy Ash out of the contract and Roy Hobbs told them no.
So Hobbs has now really painted himself into a corner with Asherror as those boosters will no longer give $$ till Ash is gone for certain.
Hobbs only survival is IF Barchi told him "no" on that offer,if not hes adrift together with Ash on the lifeboat after next season.
next question is what is Gregg Browns stance in this mess?

If that is the case, the textbook move from Hobbs would be to fire ash ASAP if the season unravels .

I was told that Barchi may be the one who told Hobbs ..No .BUT..we all know that Barchi throws people under the bus(see Tim P) S00..if the boosters want Ash gone will Barchi stand up and say he was the one who told Hobbs No?
History tells us the answer most likely,,if Barchi wants to stay, and the heat builds from boosters about holding back$$,, will Barchi then sell Hobbs out in a NY second?.

And some thought RU Al was the only one who posted look at me posts.
Looks like he has competition.

Ash probably won't succeed in making RU a winner, just like Rutgers never was or became the USC of the East.
The way USC is playing, that looks possible .But Ash seems to be making sure that won't happen by making sure RU stays worse :flush:

But if either happens, will the apologies follow.[roll]

Plum,
You might have answered this in the past but what are the top qualities do you see are musts for the next RU head coach. It’s fair to say you have been able to identify the bad moves but what are the right ones?

I would start with someone that has been a successful college HC and doesn’t need a road map to find his way around New Jersey .

Last time around, I would have been ok with schiano or golden. Golden definitely not a popular choice on this board, but he would have recruited better and won more than ash.
In 2012, I would have been fine with Christobal . In 2013, flood should have been fired and either tressel or Mullen should have been hired. Even Petrino, again not a popular choice here, but would have been better than ash.
But what now? Hope like hell ash turns it around. Or hope he goes 1-11 again and this time gets fired. The worst thing will be 3-5 wins in 2019 that Hobbs and ash can point to as progress, but it really won’t be.

its really sad that we as a fan base have to 'hope' to get a one or two win season out of Asherror,so the inept AD and clueless president are forced into firing a head coach that has won 7 games in 3 years.. that is wrong, but welcome to RU land..

Hope we go 1 and 11 again? Really ? That would be painful and you should not wish that on RU fans.

Well, I posted in that in October and figured ash would be fired in December and could have buried this bread.
This thread will live on until ash qualifies us for a bowl game or gets fired .
Every month you simply keep....

Yeah I know, but it’s just the way it is. We need to really hope for 6 or 7 wins. But the worst thing would be 3-5, with another bottom feeder big ten recruiting class , that Hobbs sends a letter to fans about as “progress “. So in that’s case 1 win would be better for the long term future .

With what money?! Any of those coaches would've asked for more money than our administration was willing to pay. We have the same problems that we had 20 years ago, and probably 20 years before that. We do not have a large enough group of donors willing to fork over enough money to make a successful program, and yet the fanbase continues to think that successful coaches want to come here and work for peanuts. That's why you get Ash. And, frankly, Hobbes, too.

IIRC Flood was paid $700k his first year as HC. The University balked at the price Schiano commanded in his latter years and decided, “Hey, let’s save some money.” Can you imagine our AD presenting those kinds of numbers to a guy like Mullen?

“$700k? Thanks Tim. That’s a pretty nice annual stationary allowance. Now let’s seriously talk about salary.”

Oh hey, I agree with you. And, we still haven't learned our lesson.

As for Ash specifically, it is possible that we could have paid a lot of money for anyone else and also come away with a losing record. There are no guarantees, of course. But, we need an engaged fan base which is willing to make the kinds of significant donations that get us in the room when these decisions are made.

Very true . No guarantees in anything. The risk with ash was too much though and this was evident when he was hired.

We’ll win two or three games and consider it a success. The “it takes 30 years to rebuild crowd” will wait until we have a couple more 2-3 win seasons with 2 star recruits to see the light and we start the process over. I’ve seen this **** show many times in my years here.

We have so many fools who keep their head buried in the sand. Pathetic

As an outsider, I thought this hire was just not a right fit. He had no personality or recruiting ability that RU needs. And in coaching circles he was not really sought after.

I did not know why RU hired him and as the first year went on, it was very obvious. But many here loved him being the shiny new car that was eventually just a dud lemon.

But again, your AD giving the second contract with a huge buyout? WHY? Made no sense

Exactly.

Can almost see the progress letter language.

Not convinced that the summer tweet by Hobbs and his ego about going back on it didnt figure in current situation.

Hobbs never heard of “pride comes before the fall”.
