Recommendations for guides and places to stay for red fishing in March/April. I live in North MS so open to options.

Expert here. Cane pole, fishing line, bobber, lead weight, hook, red worm or cricket, bream bed...in that order.

Go in late May early June.

The water is generally too dirty in March and April due to the constant fronts coming through. You may get lucky, but May-June is a safer bet.

I’ve been fishing down there for 20 years.

And most of the guides know what they are doing, but if you go when the wind is howling and it is a shitt y day, you aren’t going to catch many fish.

Never been and not caught fish. Usually go in March. Saltgrass in Buras. Request Chief as your guide. Have used Paradise Plus too closer to Venice.

I have been fishing in the Northern gulf of America all my life. I had an old black and white photo of me when I was a little boy standing on the deck of my cousin’s shrimp boat In diapers. I personally like the guides in Golden Meadow, La. for red fish.

Here ya go, Link, call or text him.

I go out with Captain Scott a few times a year, he always puts us on the fish. They have lodging available on-site. You can also stay in New Orleans if you want, it's a 45 minute drive from there to the dock.

There's a lot of guides down there that will throw live shrimp with a popping cork, that's all fine if you just want to put fish in the boat. These guys use plastics and you're actively casting. I prefer actually 'fishing' over watching a bobber. Just something to keep in mind.

They can also do a shrimp/crawfish boil on-site if you've got a group that would be interested in that.

We always went with a guide out of Port Sulfer La. I never booked it so I don’t remember the name. My biggest suggestion is to start practicing on locating your cast. I’m not much of a fisherman so I don’t get a lot of practice. You’re going to spend the entire day casting up against grass bed lines. Two foot long and your in the grass and either hung up or the grass pulls your bait off. Two foot short and the fish ignore it. I never catch a lot of fish compared to the bass fishermen I’m with because I can’t consistently put the bait on top of the fish like they can.

Don’t go march. If you go April wait as long as you can until the end of April. By May it starts getting consistent typically.

I haven't been in a few years. But we always went in Late October and self guided with a big group of fellas and destroyed em. Got after them bulls down at Port Lavaca Tx. 40"+ redfish are something else if you have never got into em.

When work was paying for it, we'd go similar time to Lake Calcasieu in La. Hackberry Rod and Gun cast and blast. Hard to beat.

Sir, this is the pack, the only fish we recognize are catfish, bass, bream and crappie (pronounced cropp-ey).

I can put you on a mess of crappie at Gun-aid-er Lake.

Don’t be a communist Yankee and think there are other legitimate fish.

Redfish is just a fancy name for saltwater drum, a fish you wouldn’t normally eat because they’re not that good.

Smaller ones are very good. You don’t want to eat the larger older ones though.

Yes the smaller ones are so much better. When I was kid in the 1970’s we would be trout fishing and get a bull redfish (30-40lb) on the hook we would cut the line. Didn’t want to mess with the darn thing. Small red fish are really good for a Courtbouillon. My cousin used to call me from the Ms. gulf coast area and tell me he was cooking a redfish Courtbouillon I would drive all the way down there from Jackson Ms just to eat.

September/October is my favorite time to fish down there. The winds are usually calm, and it isn’t so stinking hot.
