Only two reasons i can think of, because he surely gave info that could be used against him.
Don't think his lawyer would have agreed to this if it was a "You 17 me I 17 you kind of thing." reason.

that is what i was going to write but i got distracted (flucking work) 1. it's a felony to lie to the FBI and he knows there coming and 2. his lawyer assumes he is going to have to testify in court and to mitigate cross examination problems coused by the lies he told, he corrected the lies he told in the first interview. But i don't think he has told the whole truth yet
