Been reading most of the boards over the past few days, and I find it quite funny that some of the same people questioning the Ray hire because of head coaching experience are now calling for Shane Power to be hired as an assistant. So we needed someone with head coaching experience, but now Ray's first hire should be someone who has been working in broadcasting and has never recruited?

Shane is a good guy but I hope Ray brings in some good assistants who compliment him and recruit like hell. Will be interesting to see what prior assistant he retains if any. randystewart said:

Also, he played for Stansbury. Ray has to get people who understand his philosophy, not someone he is going to have to teach it to first.

I wouldn't have a problem if he were on the staff, but it definitely shouldn't be the first hire Ray makes. If he wants to be a GA or the assistant with the least amount of responsibility and Ray likes him, fine. Any more responsibility than that would be a huge gamble.

So and so is family and we like him so he'd be perfect for the job. The hell with going out and trying to find the best candidate. Shane Power may turn out to be a great coach, or he may turn out to be a terrible one. For that matter, has he even said that he wants to get into coaching? I would think he could have found a job somewhere by now if he did. But the bottom line is we don't need more than 1 assistant with MSU ties on our staff next year. And whoever Rick Ray picks is the best one for the job.

I want one guy on the staff to ease the recruiting transition for Ray. I'd rather that individual do little if any coaching. We need a complete philosophical overhaul. In fact, I'd be fine with the retained coach being around no more than one or two years. On another note, I'll be very interested to hear what our current roster says about changes in the strength and conditioning program over the next year. The things Jarvis had to say while he was trying to get into the NBA were sad and really frustrating.

1st off GA's are not permitted in SEC basketball. 2nd Shane Power may make a good coach some day. He wasa high school player in Indiana and 2years at Iowa state under Larry E. So some good exposure to different types of coaches. If he did join the staff he would most likely be director of bball ops, as that position is usually where people with no coaching experience go. As for the SS is not in the good ole boy way of thinking like LT. He is married to Bailey Howells daughter it really dont get anymore good ole boy network than that. Hes not a dynamic speaker or charismatic figure to me at all. I watched South Carolina's AD when he announced they would be making a coaching change and I mean to tell you thats how a Big Time AD should deliver a press conference.SS speaks very little and the things he says say very little. Jus my 2cents.</p>

I would not have a problem with him being on staff, but these people calling for him to be a coach are out of their minds. It is all over twitter too. Would these same idiots be calling for Anthony Dixon to be offensive coordinator for the football team?

I missed this thread and just came across it a day later, but I like to point out stupidity in myself and others when it is appropriate. No offense randy, but comparing Shane Power to Anthony Dixon is beyond moronic. I don't think Shane should be on the staff (although I thought he might be the "wild card" until today), but my goodness comparing Dixon to Power is like comparing Maurice Claiborne to Albert Einstein, or shsdawg to me. Power's tweets seem to show some good Bball knowledge..........I mean they're not as brilliant as Boobie's tweets about da whacked out hoe dat don like my nu hairkutt....but they seem fairly knowledgeable

You are suggesting that comparing candidates' tweets might be a criteria you would use in picking a staff member? <div>
</div><div>And you think the comparison of an unqualified football player to an unqualified basketball player is moronic?</div><div>
</div><div>Wow, son.</div>

I never said tweets could help in picking a coach. I was using the twitter example as a way to show the difference in personalities and intelligence levels. You know exactly what i meant. However, in comparing Power to Dixon, u probably could use twitter to make that decision! It doesnt take a rocket surgeon to know Power would make a better coach than Dixon. It DOES take someone smarter than Ol "I dont have a 17ing clue" Blue though.

I read your post where you suggested Power would make a better coaching candidate than Dixon and you brought their tweets into the discussion to seemingly make your point. <div>
</div><div>Give it up, Junior. You are out of your league.</div><div>
</div><div>BTW, I may use your line about the rocket surgeon in my sig. That's cute.</div>
