Assuming we make it to a regional as a 2 seed, who do you pitch game 1? If we win game 1, and play the #1 seed, who do you pitch? Go as far as you want.

is that we really won't have to worry about who we pitch in Game 1. When Maholm was here, he was obviously our ace. We threw him the first game (against a 4 seed). He dominated as usual, but left us exposed to UNC and we ended getting beat in that regional.

This year, with Pollorena and Routt... neither one, in my opinion, has distanced themselves from each other. So no matter who we throw in Game 1, our Game 2 starter isn't going to be much of a drop-off. Neither one is great, but both are more than adequate of getting to through 6 IP and having us in a spot to win.

We should have been able to beat MTSU very easily with our number or two or even number three guy that year. Then we would have been able to use Maholm against UNC, and on the off chance that we get upset, we would have simply used him to get us through the elimination game.

More than likely, we end up in the winners bracket with a fresh pitching staff.

This year we do not have an elite ace like Maholm. Also, playing a 3 seed vs a 4 seed is a totally different animal. You could draw a team like Ole Miss as a three seed this year. That's a quality team- it wouldn't be real smart to mess around knowing that they probably will throw their ace. A 4 seed- you might end up facing someone like Elon. I wouldn't throw my ace against them unless they had a legit first round pick ace themselves- and every once in awhile a team like that will have one.
