MSU finished 2025 ranked 22 in recruiting with an average NIL of $53k. Arizona was 46th with an average NIL of 25k. There 2nd year QB Leavitt led them to the playoffs and should be better this year. Our QB won the Big 12 with Baylor and has completed over 70% at MSU. We look like we may have a running game if our line toughens up in a week. They don't have Scattaboo and his Tourettes syndrome anymore, but they do have another stud RB this year. I know they are a solid team with good coaching, but we definitely have a decent chance of beating them. I tend to be a miserable fan. I can't even enjoy us beating USM today, because I keep looking at all of our penalties. I should have just enjoyed it, because wins are hard to come by. Either way, I don't see a talent problem against ASU. Our offense can score against anyone if we run it right. We have at least 2 WR's that nobody can catch in the open field. Our defense is better this year and we dang near beat them with a crappy team last year. How far can confidence and a coaching edge take ASU in Starkville next week?

I posted this in the game thread. I don't think you have a good idea of their level of talent.

Their front D is top 10, SEC like. Their DL Fite, Smith and Dorbah are all expected to be drafted. They have 6 legit draft prospects on D, including a man shutdown corner.

Their WR Tyson is a pre-season All American & expected to be a 1st draft pick.

Leavit is a pre-season All American & an early Heisman candidate.

They are ranked 11.

If we do beat them, we can consider State to be a legit football team this year.

Maybe because I'm watching FSU thump AAAAlaBaaama and I've had a celebratory beer, and I watched Rocky I and II and part of Rambo this week, I think maybe, just maybe, we can pull out a victory.

It would be a miracle. This team will have to improve massively. They have 4 returning starters on the Oline, returning WR, TE and QB and on D it's something like 9 returning starters.

I can only imagine the amount of Sun Devil gear you own based on your enthusiastic response. They were predicted to be one of the bottom dwellers in the Big XII last year and now they are perennial championship contenders.

Since when does simply seeing what they did last year & who they have back = being a fan?

Arizona State just had their 3rd 3 and out in the 2nd quarter and punted out of their end zone. They got 7 points shortly after a fake punt snapped to the rb and lead 14-3 over NAU. They don't look like worldbeaters so far. The announcers even said NAU had the Az St. defense was tired earlier. They have two special players: #0 is the #1 WR projected in the draft and the QB throws well on the run. Their RB could start in the SEC, but we will see someone like him on every SEC team. And yes, I understand they have some NFL talent, but so does everybody, even MSU. Let's wake the 17 up and be MSU Bulldogs next week and beat these chumps!

Jesus. No it would not.
Well ASU didn't exactly dominate an opponent that I would say is weaker than USM. Maybe all those returning starters aren't that great but I still say if we dont play like we did in the 3rd quarter we lose. First half State won't get the job done. We looked pitiful. If we get 4 quarters of the team that came out after half we might be 4-0 when we face Tennessee. Not sure what Lebby said at halftime but something clicked

There is a reason all of those returning starters are playing on a team that has half the NIL budget of most SEC teams and it’s not because they just love ASU and hate money. They play in a league where recruiting in the mid 40s gets you to the playoffs. They have a couple of really good players and a whole lot of mid (by SEC standards). We will have to play well to beat them, but we definitely don’t need a miracle for it to happen. Our OL got much better after Steen got hurt and we moved the pieces around. The penalties have to get cleaned up but the defense is clearly much better. The spread will be very tight.
