Interesting quote.

“If you talk to him about football, he was really well-coached,” Cunningham says. “This kid knew the game coming in. I kept quizzing him. He knew things that a lot of coaches don’t know.”

Proof that Dan coaches them up. An often stated, and subsequently mocked by rivals, theory...

Cut it out, frame it, and show it to every recruit.

Come to MSU and you will be ready for the NFL.

I've said all along that I think Slay will be the most successful between him and Banks. Although I think both are gonna have long careers in the NFL.

Banks will be a long term starter because he has the knowledge and skill set and most importantly his dedication to "making it"... but he doesn't have the God given natural ability that Slay has. If Banks had Slay's ability he would have been a top 5 pick.

I don't know who will be better, but I'm guessing Slay will have more of a highlight reel. I can see Banks being a "boring" corner with primarily pass breakups... I see Slay intercepting balls and stopping and going with guys all the way down field. Either could be more successful, but Slay will be more fun to watch I think.

For those of you hatin' on Mullen's recruiting... Ballard is starting RB for a playoff team and Slay is getting fluffer articles written about him it seems like once a week. Trust the system. Remove the hybrid Croom/Mullen guys and the fact remains that we're pumping a lot of guys into the next level at prominent positions for the first time since like 1998.

Question on Melvin

Rumors abounded when he left that he was slacking off, sleeping in meetings, etc. Yet here we have one of his players praised for his knowledge of the game--much of which you would think came from his position coach. So which is it? Lazy Melvin, Melvin the football professor, or a little of both?

Maybe it wasn't Melvin at all. Collins, Mullen, Hughes, and Wilson get on these guys, too, and spend time with instruction.

I don't think Melvin's issues were some sideline instructions. I thought it lately to be more classroom and recruiting where he earned the "lazy" moniker from folks.

Banks = Walt Harris. And that is definitely a compliment. I don't know how many of you know that Harris played for 12 years until an ACL. And, was playing at his highest level at the end. Starting for the niners and made a pro bowl.

Quite vet. Well respected player. Name is still brought up around the NFC south.
