AT&T or Comcast

Need some help here. I have Comcast for my cable, computer and phones. I like the cable and computer service. The phone service sucks for the most part. I originally had AT&T for the computer and phones. The online service ran slow, the phones were very good but the cost for both AT&T and Comcast grew to be too much.

I decided to bundle all with Comcast three years and four months ago which saved me over $100 a month. My Comcast rates went up on 01/01/2017. I told them we had a two year contract that started in August 2015. They said they would cut the price some if we did another two year deal.

So, I checked with AT&T to bundle all. I am doing their best cable package, phones and internet service and saving about $40-45 a month. I might switch just because I am pissed at Comcast for increasing my rate in the middle of the contract. Plus their customer service leaves much to be desired. However, I am worried the internet service might suck again and I have no experience with Uverse.

I am wondering if anyone here has any experience with these two providers and who you recommend and why. I appreciate any and all help. Thank you.

Uverse for cable TV/On-Demand is OK, no problems but then I'm not a binge watcher of edgier cable series (GOT, Walking Dead etc.) so I'm not really dealing with DVRing or anything past channel surfing.

I used to hear worse things about AT&T cellular side of customer service several years back, but they have been OK to me. Do you bundle cell (Verizon) with your current Comcast?

If you are still a landliner, that might decide it in favor of AT&T b/c Comcast is very disjointed in regards to service and repairs of terrestrial phone service.

Regarding internet access -

Dr, unless you have Access to ATT fiber in your area you will continue to be disappointed in the ATT internet access. Get the top Mbps ATT is offering and compare to your current Comcast internet (probably 50mbps or 75mbps as they are the two most common Comcast residential plans)

I thought about making the switch but am holding off until ATT gets off their *** and puts Fiber in my area...

For the past three years, I've had Comcast land line, internet and their top level DVR. The second two are fine, but the phone service is lacking.

I will say, however, that the phone service has improved dramatically. Originally, we were losing contact frequently, and were getting numerous phantom phone calls. We still get phantom calls, but fewer than before. Some are part of a scam.

I think their DVR service is fantastic. My Netflix service is much better through Comcast than it was through my Roku. However, I still need the Roku for Amazon Prime, Acorn and other services. So far, there is no extra charge for Netfilx, but as Jack Palance said in City Slickers, "Day ain't over yet."

Note - after two years, our rates went sky high. I called to complain and was offered a generous (so to speak) two year plan which I took. I get grief on this board due to my age, but it can work to my advantage. I can say, "screw it" even if I know better.

I had uVerse for years and was very satisfied with the service. But I read somewhere that they will not be putting a lot of money in the future. Just switched to Directv for TV service as I read they are the only provider with true 1080p picture. Still have my landline and internet tough AT&T along with my wireless.

Had UVerse for years and loved it. Switched to Comcast a few years ago for price and enjoy it as well.

I would suggest against going to UVerse for TV right now. ATT is pushing all new subscribers toward DirectTV and it is unknown how long they will continue to support their UVerse cable TV platform. I think it is a good guess that they will transition all current UVerse subscribers away from cable in the next two years.

I love Comcast for internet and cable. One nice thing about Xfinity is you can use the WiFi wherever it is available as a comcast subscriber. I wish it were cheaper but just like Verizon for my cell phone I feel you can't beat it!

Dr. I had Time Warner and switched to ATT Uverse
ATT was cheaper than Time Warner and is better. Although not perfect it is okay but still to expensive.

Had AT&T Uverse. Problem for me is with 5 kids you can only watch 4 Tv's at once. Or watch 3 and record on another. Once a 5th set is turned on, another gets cut off. I was always the one getting cut off so I switched to Comcast. Problem solved!
Will never go back to AT&T for that plus SLOW internet.

Service updates happen all the time. Comcast added Netflix; while ATT allows you to watch something you missed as much as three days ago..

I had ATT's new Fiber Optic web and Direct TV.....had zero issues with ATT for internet and home phone but Direct TV was a joke and easily the biggest mistake...bad reliability and wound up being more costly than Comcast. Obviously I need good internet no matter who I go thru then add Xfinity services and it's a no brainer for me.

How were the speeds for the ATT Fiber? Was it better/faster than the Comcast 75mbps residential offering?

Yeah satellite is always going to be less reliable than cable. Only reason to put up with it is to get unlimited data for cell plan from ATT. Those guys are fairly astute marketeers as they got me considering it and mulling the issue with dealing with the less reliable satakite TV for the benefit of faster fiber internet (if that's accurate) and gettIng the unlimited cell data for family cell plan.

Is it reliable?
MC, I would say in general it is reliable. The one problem we have had is the camera's sometimes losing communications with the router.
Some of that is a function of our house because our router is on one of the ends of the house. I don't think that we would have any issues if the router was more centrally located.
I was able to save enough off of my homeowners insurance because of the security system that it pretty much balanced the cost of the system.

ATT fiber was reliable but still wasn't as fast or as consistently as fast as Comcast.
