where you judge classes by how they do as freshmen and not how they do over their entire career. I would think that a lawyer could do better analytical work than that.

Especially when I have two neutral unbiased sources that agree with me.

This team is worse than the 2008 team, and the 2009 team. We are still moving in the wrong direction for the third year in a row and it still hasn't bottomed out yet. Just when you think things cant get worse, it does.If Cohen cannot make it to Hoover by 2011 he needs to go. Bottom line . </p>

Had two pretty dolid starts prior to today. I think CC Watson will be pretty good, as will Ben Bracewell. I agree with you on Frost, and I agree with you slightly on Cohen being gone after 2011. Next year, it will practically be his entire group of guys.

I think five years is too long. We'll know way before then whether he is going to work out or not. Four years is more than reasonable. By year four, should he make it that long, This class will be juniors, and this class coming in will be sophomores, and they all should be relatively experienced players in the SEC. Also, by year four all of the players from the previous regime will be gone (Thank God) with the exception of maybe Brent Brownlee. And on top of that, there will only be no more than four guys on the team that were even recruited by the previous staff, but those players never played for Polk. Plus, he will have three full classes in.

While you have the disadvantage of not having your first group of players in as freshmen in your first year, it kind of balances out by the fact that some of the players are gone after three years.

Buckvich? Really?

The only one of those two that didn't struggle as freshmen at times was maybe Pomeranz. Didn't Baker get exiled to the bullpen for awhile? All of those guys also were Sunday guys on top of that, and again, all three of those players improved over time.

Picked up wins at No. 19 Georgia (4/2), Auburn (4/9), at No. 7 South Carolina (4/16), at Mississippi State (5/20), No. 6 Alabama (5/27) and Tulane (6/4).

Turned in 71.1 innings of work with a 4-3 record as he struck out 81 and walked 30 with a 4.16 ER. Wins against Vandy, LSU, and USC.

eta: Both Lynn and Pom ended up being Saturday guys. Your comment about the other guys being Sunday guys is retarded. A freshman weekend starter for a top 20 SEC team is what it is.

after that. Same for Buckvich. You also notice that all of their ERA's are at least in the 4's, and that only Baker's is in the 3.9's. That's not exactly what I would consider dominating for a pitcher, but good for a freshman.

I would also be willing to bet that their ERA's, wins, K's also all improved over time as they continued along.

Think about it- you can make Freshman All-American with an ERA of over 4.00- which is what Nick Routt did. And yet, people don't think that these guys are going to improve?

Brae Wright went 3-2 with a 2.94 ERA (33.2 IP, 11 ER) in nine appearances, including four starts, versus SEC teams ...

Alan Horne …Earned honorable mention Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball newspaper in 2002...Made 12 starts and was 5-2 with a 4.97 ERA... Limited opponents to a .226 batting average.

Mark Holliman started 15 games....was 4-7 with a 3.85 era and opponents hit .235 against him.

Baker and Buk did decline....somehow Baker still got drafted really (probably because he's a lefty with stuff in the low 90s). You might disagree with me, but I would consider Freshman SEC weekend starters with a 4.5- ERA as effective.

silly to even argue, if a freshman is starting on the weekend in the SEC and ends up with a 4.5 ERA or below, then they have been extremely effective, and if the team is worth a damn then the freshman should be relegated to Sunday. State has not had a guy that should have started on the weekends the last few years, including this year, but due to circumstances have been forced into that role and have done what they can.
