MSU's Writeup:

Pros: Mississippi State has shown an ability to field a competitive team on a semi-regular basis in the past two decades. The Bulldogs have had a winning overall record in 11 of the 22 seasons since the first wave of SEC expansion in 1991. That’s not great, but it’s better than most college football fans might expect. Support for Mississippi State football is at an all-time high; the Bulldogs averaged 55,695 (101.1 percent of capacity) at Davis Wade Stadium last season.
Cons: Recruiting top players to Starkville can be difficult. Not only does MSU have to battle Ole Miss for the best of the best in the state, but Alabama, Auburn and LSU are almost always in play for Mississippi’s top players.
Final Verdict: This is the toughest job in the SEC West — and maybe the entire league. Good coaches have shown the ability to remain relevant in the league, but it’s difficult to envision a scenario in which Mississippi State can win a division that includes Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and Auburn.

So they got to the mid 40s and realized they hadn't finished the SEC and stuck them all in consecutively in alphabetical order. I don't know who 32-43 are and I am too lazy to copy and paste an unhypered link, but I suspect we should be somewhere in that group based off what you posted.

I have no misconceptions about our place in the food chain, unless I have us too low. But we're a better job than Kentucky. Let's see how Boise does without Chris Peterson before giving them that spot. And I would argue we are better than GA Tech because our stadium is newer.

Here are the notables:

  1. Texas
  2. Florida
  3. Alabama (I would actually move Bama down a few spots because even though you get the resources and support, you have crazy high expectations and insane fans)
  4. USC
  5. Ohio State
  6. Oklahoma
  7. Notre Dame (I would move this job down slightly. You do have the benefit of getting way more exposure and hype than you deserve, but you have to recruit nationally and there's no particular reason for them to be good now other than they were a while ago. I think Kelly could have done as well or better at any school with a decent recruiting base).
  8. Georgia
  9. LSU (I'd move LSU up to somewhere in the top 5. All the support you want and the alpha dog in a rich recruiting ground)
  10. Michigan

Others:
13. Texas AM
15. Auburn
16. Tennessee (Agree that this is high. Unrealistic expectations in a not so great recruiting footpring, although they do at least bring resources and crazy fans to the table)
19. South Carolina
22. Oklahoma State
25. Arkansas
27. VT
30. OM (No way MSU and UM aren't right next to each other if you take out expectations. If you add expectations, MSU would have to edge ahead)
31. Missouri (Historicaly maybe, but surely being in the SEC this is a more desirable job than state or UM now. Not as many athletes per capita as the true south maybe, but they get to pitch the SEC in a relatively populous state compared to State and UM splitting Mississippi)
44. NC State
45. Boise State
46. Georgia Tech (This seems low. They're still in Georgia and get to compete in a failry easy BCS conference).
47. Kentucky (This and Vandy seems high. Maybe things are different now, but I'm still thinking these are likely to be the east doormats over the longhaul.
48. MSU
49. Vandy
77. USM
90. Memphis
97. ULL
104. Ark State
105. Troy
107. Rice
111. Tulane
124. UAB (wow)

Don't worry; we put the legal clamps down on the guy that owns Athlon. It wasn't a fair fight because we own the media****

There's not an ounce of difference between the MSU and OM coaching jobs in a ranking. Objectively speaking
