Football: 5-7 with enough signs of hope for 2010 to be really exciting
Basketball: Sweet 16 (Yes I said it Coach), another SEC West title, possibly an SEC title
Baseball: Probably a regional in California or somewhere, 3rd place in the West

I see those as best case scenarios. is that the same thing as a goal? Now Im confused.

I disagree that the Sweet 16 is a best case scenario for this basketball team, with our without Sidney.

Reality:

Football 4-8 at best.
Basketball - Who the F knows. With Sidney, West title, deep run. Without him, same old ****.
Baseball - 30 wins, finally make birmingham, 3 seed somewhere.

we have a chance to be pretty bad in baseball next year.

5 wins in football? That would mean beating Houston and then winning at Vandy, at KY, and at MTSU. I can't see all 4 of those happening.

If you really see those two as best case scenario, then you're either depressed or been following MSU sports entirely too long. If Croom and Polk were coach I would agree with you.

We were a closer away from meeting that baseball goal this season. We beat two teams that are in the College World Series.

5 wins is attainable every season in football. I guarantee you Mullen's unspoken goal this year is 6-7 wins and a bowl game.

and we lose 3 of our 4 best offensive players--offense being the reason we won the games we did. I think our staff will be better but its still almost all freshmen.

I would rebut your football argument, but you didn't make one.

I certainly hope we achieve bowl status in football, elite eight in basketball, and super regional in baseball. I am looking at the Anaheim game with UCLA. That might be a good trip. And I will hope to go to ANY bowl.

Best case scenarios
Football - 7-5 regular season with an Indy/Liberty Bowl Berth
Basketball - Final 4 run
Baseball - Sneak our way into a Super-Regional

Probably scenario:
Football - 5-7, maybe 6-6 if we pull an upset. LSU or Auburn are most likely candidates
Basketball - Sweet 16 and an SECW title. We have a good shot at another SECT title, but probably not at the regular season title
Baseball - Make the SEC Tournament and get a 2 or 3 seed at a regional

Disappointing scenario:
Football - 4-8, yes this is only one game different from the probable, but it means we will have lost either a winnable Non-Conf. game or won only 1 SEC game
Basketball - One and done in the Dance, no SECW title
Baseball - no postseason... again

and he acted like he had no idea what i was talking about...
the rebel fans i know are all pumping sunshine for next football season. they wont even acknowledge that an injury (Snead) could easily derail their season early...
i think they'll be good, but they arent going to sneak up on anyone next year.

is Quarterback. They have one, we didn't. Yeah I know he could have been OK but his work ethic was beyond terrible that year, the sort of garbage that real leaders and winners don't do. Ole Miss's season will depend on what kind of attitude and toughness they bring. like us, they won't be overlooked this year. the whole D line from Western Arizona didn't help matter either, but we were still better than our record.

I just don't see them finishing in the top 10 nationally either. They do have some good players, but people are way underestimating what they lost in the draft. I see tham at 9-3 next year, even with the cupcake schedule. Still an excellent season, but not as good as what most Rebels seem to be expecting.

...nobody knows what the hell is going to happen.

For instance, if you predicted Southern Miss would be in the CWS this year, then please stop by the counter on your way out & pick up your million dollars.

Just like 2007 in football: Nobody but BulldogBacker predicted 7-5.

Then the tournament run in basketball: After coach34 informed everybody that run was an impossibility, I, like everybody else, threw in the towel on it happening.

The funny part is certain messageboard experts will not admit to the unpredictabilty of college sports, thereby creating religious doctrines around their predictions.

Of course, these people belong to the Church of the Douchebags.

In any case, I think the hype over your football team for next year is way overblown.

I mean, I see why they are doing it, but a lot of things must go right. It's completely possible, but not probable, if that makes sense.

And I agree that if everything falls into place for you like it did the second half of last year, you may have a chance to finish that high. But for the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would predict it. My best explanation is with your late season wins last year, you're now the trendy team for everyone to jump on the bandwagon.

make it for a chance at a bowl bid. Yes, I do think it's attainable. Auburn game will be the difference in whether we bowl or not. I can honestly see a 3-0 start with a win there. However, I know 1-2 is a real possibility and would mean 3-9. I still say we have a home upset (but that could be Houston.)
