For our players it would be just another lower tier game placed in front of a SEC game that we will be "looking ahead to." For USM, this will be their super bowl and we would NEVER hear the end of it if they beat us. I don't like it one bit, this is the legitimacy that they have been longing for, and we should NOT give it to them. We have absolutely nothing to gain, nada, zero, zilch. I don't care if it means only 6 home games, don't do it.

I think you have to remember that with everyone trying to fill out 12-game schedules and a comparatively limited athletic budget, sometimes small budget schools in big conferences have to make tough choices, like deciding to play Univ. South Alabama at their place. I suspect that USM is not at the top of Byrne's list. If they are ultimately scheduled and he then puts a real positive spin on it in the media, he does so while well aware of the drawbacks. The problem is that he is aware of all of the realities of running MSU's atheletic department, while we in message board land can stay in relatively blissful ignorance.</p>

But trust me, I've seen both teams up close and personal, and the talent level at USM vs MSU (or any other SEC team for that matter... Including Vandy) is no where close. DeAndre Brown can go on those deep vertical routes all day when he's facing a 5'8" cornerback that runs about a 4.8 forty time... But it's a different ballgame within the SEC. So, really, the only thing lacking is coaching... And I think we've got that now. By the way, I agree... State should never play USM for numerous reasons that have already been discussed

its not strike one. But anytime we lose to a non BCS school, its 17ed up. Losses to those kind of schools will keep fans away. Its smarter to play a Rice or uab conference USA team than Southern Miss or Houston, even if its more expensive.
