if we just add teams from Big 12 to appease Bama and Florida who demand not to be in the same division. C34 couldn't complain about those West Banners anymore is about the only good thing about this if true.

Won't happen. The SEC will be sure to add the same number of east as west teams to keep it balanced.

Auburn fans are still upset that they don't get to play Georgia, Florida and Tennessee every year. Stick Auburn in the East and make Bama their permanent rival. The problem there, though, is you lose the Alabama-UT game....

<div id="text_expose_id_4c1239297627a3f07ef72" class="comment_actual_text text_exposed">I was just in Austin last week,
and all of the UT partisans I talked to about it seem to adhere most to this scenario: the SEC West
picks up Utexas, A&M, Texas Tech (which should be intriguing, with
Tuberville there), *and* Baylor, thereby bumping Bammer and Auburn to
the SEC East.

Why would the SEC want Baylor? Because the TX
state legislature and Rick Perry might get <span class="text_exposed_hide"><span class="text_exposed_link"></span></span><span class="text_exposed_show">involved to stop any defection scenario that
didn't allow all four Texas Big 12 schools to stay together. It's all
due to fears that Baylor will get left out, of course, and there are plenty of
influential Baylor people in the legislature.

The other scenario
they liked depended on Baylor and TT finding another home--if the state
gov't <span style="font-style: italic;">didn't </span>try to keep those four together: UTexas and A&M go to
the SEC, *along with* OU and OSU, again bumping Alabama and Auburn to
the East.

The thing that struck me was just how little credence
these UT fans gave the rumors about the Pac-10 or the Big 10.

Disclaimer:
they're UT partisans, and this is all speculation. But you've gotta
love it.

Of course when I got back to Georgia, everybody here was still speculating about taking ACC teams. Myself, I'd much rather see the Texas
teams join, especially because we're moving back to Austin at the end of the month.</span></div>

You're right about Florida though. The reason we origininally had 2 permanent opponents in the other division was so Auburn could play both Georgia and Florida every year.

This used to be a huge rivalry. The game was so big that Auburn played their home games against UT in Birmingham for many, many years. Auburn fans weeped and wailed back in 1992 when they had to drop Tennessee, even though they were able to keep Georgia and Florida.

Granted, if they had to drop 1 team out of Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Tennesee, they would choose Tennessee, but nothing would make them happier than to play all four every year once again.

I knew that Auburn had a lot of East ties (and used tobe in the East in baseball until sometime in the 70s) and that UGA, UF, and Georgia Tech were big rivalries for them. But I didn't know UT was also a big rival.

Texas cannot dictate terms to the SEC, and they certainly would not be allowed to get their own TV deal. They can probably get a lot of concessions from the 12-PAC, and they might get some concessions from the Big 10+2 (no separate TV deal, though), but they won't be able to pull any shenanigans with the SEC.

It would be similar to Florida's deal with SUN Sports and Kentucky's Big Blue Network.....Rumor is that is the hold up from them going on to the Pac10, which wants to do like the Big 10 and create its own league network therefore not allowing schools to enter into their own multimedia deals.

Might ultimately squelch it.

Apparently, people think Texas is interested in the PAC-10 primarily because of the "academic profile."

alumni I know consider UT more of a rivalry than AU, so I don't think they'd be too happy about not having the opportunity to beat UT the third weekend in October. They certainly wouldn't give up UT in order to benefit AU.

Plus look at what UF makes on their deal with SUN.

Joining the SEC and getting their ownTV deal is not a problemin this decisionat all.
