Unfortunately it may be time for some of the programs in swva to consider 8 man. At least for a while. Craig, Bland, Auburn, Twin Valley, and perhaps others that I'm forgetting that have struggled to field teams in the last 3-4 seasons. Whatever it takes to get more numbers. Rappahannock County went 8 man a couple years ago and it has revitalized a program that struggled far worse than any of the programs I mentioned above. If going 8 man can help them, it can help anyone.

I wonder why Auburn struggles so much to field a football team, when just about every other sports program at the school, boys and girls, are very successful.

That's how it is at some schools. Out this way, Lancaster is known for basketball. track & field, and it's done rather well in baseball. But, its been a good long while since they've fielded a decent football team. Some of that blame has been put on the fact there is no youth program in the county.
