Seriously? Are they chopping down the entire trees or trimming roots/limbs?

Like or dislike AU this whole fiasco was bull ****. Hate it for the rational fan that appreciates tradition.

They weren't able to save them. I guess they'll find different trees to roll this fall.

They're replacing them with concrete structures w/ wires between them or some ****, aren't they? I remember reading an article on that, but I never saw a drawing.

I think it used to be wires decades ago, but once the wires were removed, they switched to the trees. They won't be able to plant anything there for several more years until all the Spike is out of the soil.

Rolling Toomer's Corner will continue at Auburn. Even if there are no oaks. The city will install three concrete poles and string wires between them to catch toilet paper fans traditionally rolled the oak trees with.

"It will be in the shape of a triangle, and we'll span two wires between the poles, 3 or 4 inches apart, which will help the toilet paper catch on the wire," Kevin Cowper, assistant Auburn city manager, told the Opelika News. "It'll be at the height of the traffic lights, so it'll be a pretty easy height for people to reach as well." The structure will be built this summer.

Construction of a permanent rolling structure will begin after the 2013 season.

According to the report, the poles will be in the median on College Street and in the two islands in front of Toomer's Drugstore and the Bank Vault. Toomer's Oaks are set to be removed April 23. The removal is scheduled to follow a final rolling of the historic oaks, which were poisoned in 2010, after A-Day on April 20.

They trimmed already to try to save them

It did not work. Sucks for their fans. I don't know enough about Spike to know if they'd be willing to sell pieces.

I would buy pieces of the Christmas tree in the junction if it would encourage them to cut it down. It would burn real hot in a camp fire.
