I just read that Stuarts Draft won at Buckingham tonight 20-13 in the closest game of the evening involving one of our local teams. So along with the earlier-reported wins by Riverheads and Buffalo Gap, that means that Augusta County teams picked up three crucial road wins tonight. Meanwhile, Wilson lost at home 22-3 to two-time defending state champs Liberty Christian Academy.

So the three regional title games for our immediate area are now set for Thanksgiving weekend. In the one that will garner the most local interest, Buffalo Gap will travel to Riverheads for the Region 1-B title. RHS won the regular season meeting between the two 29-15, although BG had a halftime lead.

Stuarts Draft will have the unenviable task of trying to derail the defending Region 2-B and state runner-up Strasburg Rams. I am not sure what, if any, history those two have.

And to no great surprise, the Region 3-C title will come down to a re-match between Heritage of Lynchburg and two-time state champs LCA. Heritage earned its right to advance by knocking off Turner Ashby tonight 35-14.

We will take a closer look at those match-ups next week. Hope everyone had a safe trip home.

And while we are praising the efforts of our Augusta County schools, the only one that didn't have a game tonight, Fort Defiance, has a BIG one tomorrow (Saturday) when the unbeaten Lady Indians volleyball team will take on Radford for the Class Two state championship. That will be a 4:30 first serve from the Salem Civic Center and should be on NFHS.
