I would have to tell Sam "Look, just bunt every time up there unless I tell you otherwise." "Otherwise" being a situation where a pitcher is really wild and there is a chance that he will walk Frost, or there is a runner on third or the bases are loaded or something like that.
At least that way he will be much more likely to put the bat on the ball and make them field the ball, which is about the same difference as tapping the ball back to the pitcher. And heck, who knows? With his speed, he might beat a couple out.
