Hobies moved into the old Nutrigroove in the CD and looks like a great fit. Downtown undergoing an enormous renovation to make it more walkable. They have a camera on the city websiteWe haven't had a "Starkville Construction" thread this summer. I always enjoy those. I'll be in Starkville in a few weeks for the Party Animals game. I'll try and snap some pics then.
I know we have the new dorm above. The new building the Duff brothers paid for where the tin gym used to be. There's a new daiquiri bar called Mississippi Ice in the College View development. And there was some sort of small structure being constructed in the cotton district next to the Klassroom (I have no idea what this could be as it was so small).
What else is new in town?

The new Cadence Bank is just about done. (OK, probably not what you're looking for)We haven't had a "Starkville Construction" thread this summer. I always enjoy those. I'll be in Starkville in a few weeks for the Party Animals game. I'll try and snap some pics then.

Thanks for the link. I had no idea downtown was that big of a construction zone.Main Street Revitalization Project | Starkville, MS - Official Website

Hate to tell you but that was just the start. Looks like they've finished the first of it and have now torn up the next half mile. As I recall supposed to go to Rick's and maybe further. Going to be awhile. Thanks for the link. I had no idea downtown was that big of a construction zone.
Do you know about old 82/MLK just north of downtown? It was a mess all during baseball season. Seems ridiculous that 1/2 mile of road can be under constant renovation for 6+ months
Why did he move?Hobies moved into the old Nutrigroove in the CD and looks like a great fit. Downtown undergoing an enormous renovation to make it more walkable. They have a camera on the city website
He's sick of Lynn Spruill repeatedly tearing up downtown which keeps people away from his business. I also heard some of his suppliers had stopped deliveries because they were tired of climbing his infamous "27 stairs" to make deliveriesWhy did he move?
Just don't use the contractor LOL.Just noticed that Wier-Boerner was the architect. Same ones who did Dudy Noble. Should use them more often.

Well damn, that sucks. I've got a place on the north side of town off Jackson Street and having 182 blocked off really makes trips to Kroger, Walmart, Academy, etc much more of a PITA.Hate to tell you but that was just the start. Looks like they've finished the first of it and have now torn up the next half mile. As I recall supposed to go to Rick's and maybe further. Going to be awhile.
I will say the few times I've tried to slip around it on the back streets I've ended up in parts of town I never knew existed so that was interesting but usually ended up back where I started.
Sir, this is SixPacks Peak. I don't think there's nearly enough bittching in this thread.**that is a very well done addition to campus
Would you prefer me to pick apart everything that I dislike with this piece of architecture and also offer how they can improve on it, and maybe get my crayons out and draw a pretty picture, and then start a poll, and introduce discussion of a petition?Sir, this is SixPacks Peak. Let me counter your argument with the outside of the cafeteria...The best thing about the Keenum era is the unified design language of new buildings on campus. I haven’t worked on campus since 2001, but back then architects were allowed to do whatever they wanted. And we ended up with monstrosities like the library expansion and the Henry Hunter bldg. It seems like every new building, including the Union renovation and DWS expansion fall within the same design vernacular.
I’ve also noticed that State has started using out-of-state firms for facilities. No more Foil-Wyatt garbage from the 80s and 90s.

Oof. Yeah. That’s not great, but I want to see what it looks like in person before I pass judgement. I can only assume the architect want to maximize the amount of light that comes into the space, because it could easily feel like a cave being on the north side, lower level.
That's pretty bad. There must not be any external historic building protection for the cafeteria.
It doesn't look any better in person.I want to see what it looks like in person before I pass judgement.
Funny how Rick wasn’t required to change his sign. Guess it’s just a coincidenceHate to tell you but that was just the start. Looks like they've finished the first of it and have now torn up the next half mile. As I recall supposed to go to Rick's and maybe further. Going to be awhile.

owners of old place were idiots. He’s much better of nowWhy did he move?
Mos def. I’ve known one of the namesakes since kindergarten, and they are a fantastic firm!Just noticed that Wier-Boerner was the architect. Same ones who did Dudy Noble. Should use them more often.

UGLY. CRAPTASTIC. ABOMINATION.Let me counter your argument with the outside of the cafeteria...
That's STEEP I stayed in Nunnelee Hall 2019/2020 school year and was supposed to pay right around $7k for the year. I think we got some kind of reimbursement for the second half of the covid semester, but I could be wrongMy good buddy’s son is a freshman in a few weeks and he’ll be staying there. $10k + a year…. Woooof.
My daughter stayed in a deluxe at Nunnlee 22/23. $9,000 for the year. On move in day, I had to go to the hardware store to buy fasteners to repair the desk chair and bed frame. My good buddy’s son is a freshman in a few weeks and he’ll be staying there. $10k + a year…. Woooof.
