We haven't had a "Starkville Construction" thread this summer. I always enjoy those. I'll be in Starkville in a few weeks for the Party Animals game. I'll try and snap some pics then.

I know we have the new dorm above. The new building the Duff brothers paid for where the tin gym used to be. There's a new daiquiri bar called Mississippi Ice in the College View development. And there was some sort of small structure being constructed in the cotton district next to the Klassroom (I have no idea what this could be as it was so small).

What else is new in town?

Hobies moved into the old Nutrigroove in the CD and looks like a great fit. Downtown undergoing an enormous renovation to make it more walkable. They have a camera on the city website

Azeala and Old Main are beautiful additions to the campus.

I wish there was a better way to tie the north residential area of campus to the drill field area but hernia hill needs excavation to Include a grand entrance. But I don't think there is room for that.

I just realized the other day why The DUFF building was built away from Creelman.

The master plans show a McCarthy plaza with one more building being built in the future on Creelman to create a plaza there among Lee, Duff and a future building.

The new Cadence Bank is just about done. (OK, probably not what you're looking for)

Not sure what that's going to be next to the Klassroom either but what ever it is, they're not in a hurry to get it done. I don't think that small pile of materials has moved since the dog races last spring.

Looks like Salsarita's bit the dust if that was your thing.

As mentioned last month they have indeed taken out all of the nice trees between 12 and the frat houses and have shaved off the banks of the ped bridge/University in prep for some utility work as I remember someone saying. Progress and necessary I suppose but I really hate to see mature trees taken down.

About all I have in addition to what's been said.

Thanks for the link. I had no idea downtown was that big of a construction zone.
Do you know about old 82/MLK just north of downtown? It was a mess all during baseball season. Seems ridiculous that 1/2 mile of road can be under constant renovation for 6+ months
Hate to tell you but that was just the start. Looks like they've finished the first of it and have now torn up the next half mile. As I recall supposed to go to Rick's and maybe further. Going to be awhile.
I will say the few times I've tried to slip around it on the back streets I've ended up in parts of town I never knew existed so that was interesting but usually ended up back where I started.

He's sick of Lynn Spruill repeatedly tearing up downtown which keeps people away from his business. I also heard some of his suppliers had stopped deliveries because they were tired of climbing his infamous "27 stairs" to make deliveries

Well damn, that sucks. I've got a place on the north side of town off Jackson Street and having 182 blocked off really makes trips to Kroger, Walmart, Academy, etc much more of a PITA.

Sir, this is SixPacks Peak. I don't think there's nearly enough bittching in this thread.**
Would you prefer me to pick apart everything that I dislike with this piece of architecture and also offer how they can improve on it, and maybe get my crayons out and draw a pretty picture, and then start a poll, and introduce discussion of a petition?

Is this the dorm that we paid something crazy like $100mm for? I remember a thread a few years ago that calculated it to an insane amount per bed for the expected life of the dorm.

The best thing about the Keenum era is the unified design language of new buildings on campus. I haven’t worked on campus since 2001, but back then architects were allowed to do whatever they wanted. And we ended up with monstrosities like the library expansion and the Henry Hunter bldg. It seems like every new building, including the Union renovation and DWS expansion fall within the same design vernacular.
I’ve also noticed that State has started using out-of-state firms for facilities. No more Foil-Wyatt garbage from the 80s and 90s.

Let me counter your argument with the outside of the cafeteria...

Oof. Yeah. That’s not great, but I want to see what it looks like in person before I pass judgement. I can only assume the architect want to maximize the amount of light that comes into the space, because it could easily feel like a cave being on the north side, lower level.

Went to campus for first time in a decade as we let one of the kids look at State then went over to see Bama. A lot of progress on campus with new construction. I forgot how much the Library and McCool hall are eye sores to the Drill Field. The town of Starkville is hugely improved and I was impressed with the progress.

Bama has shot up. It is extremely impressive and architecturally consistent. The campus has had its boom and it shows. The dorms are superior to what we have to offer. Tuscaloosa is still trash town.

The new dorm is exactly what we needed but we have a long way to go.

Question for Starkvillians. The last couple of times I've been to 2 Brothers the food and service has been spotty. Anyone else feel this way? While Bin keeps on chugging, patio full and service on point.

Funny how Rick wasn’t required to change his sign. Guess it’s just a coincidence

That's STEEP I stayed in Nunnelee Hall 2019/2020 school year and was supposed to pay right around $7k for the year. I think we got some kind of reimbursement for the second half of the covid semester, but I could be wrong
