  • First, the atmosphere: It just isn't good. Not trying to flame Ole Miss, but we are miles ahead of them in in-stadium atmosphere and really equal in tailgating/gameday atmosphere. They will never admit that the Junction rivals the Grove, but it does - from the proximity to the stadium to the fanfare/kids activities - all centrally located, it has become one of the best kept secrets in college football.
  • Hospitality: As I said on NAFOOM - worst I have ever been treated or seen people treated at an away game.
  • The Perk Package: Thanks. That is what I have been waiting on. Just outstanding plays drawn up for Perkins - finally using one of our best playmakers the right way. Great blocking downfield.
  • Relf: Has to be quickly becoming one of the most hated State players ever from an Ole Miss perspective. The TD throw to Smith and the bomb to Bump were things of beauty. I am sure that the Perkins play was covered a LOT better than we thought it would be and I am sure that Mullen cringed when Relf let it go, but he put it out there and Perk made a play. Counting chickens here, but if he takes them down next year in Starkville, he may be in the conversation for best Egg Bowl QB in the modern era, for either side. Both Archie and Eli lost one apiece right?
  • It was great to see Chris Smith bounce back from that fumble and find the endzone. Just a great play where he protected the ball and muscled his way into the endzone instead of reaching out the ball and risking another fumble.
  • McPhee: BEAST - all of the people that have criticized McPhee this year need to be checked out. I actually saw him get triple teamed a few times Saturday.
  • White and Wright: Awesome. You know KJ is getting ragged for dropping another INT though - that was really the first one where I think he should have had it. The others he just made great plays batting down balls. That one was a gift.
  • Broomfield - much better and the defense was just all-around better on the edges. You could tell that Ole Miss saw the game film from the last 2 games and hoped to exploit it, but we weren't having any of it. Langston made some great plays too.
  • Cox/Boyd/Carmon/Ferguson - much better penetration, particularly against the run.
  • Sherrod - turned a corner this year from being a very good tackle to perhaps be the best ever at State, and that is saying a LOT.
  • Masoli was the second best passer in that game. He threw some absolutely awful passes, short hopping some and sailing others, and should have been picked off at least 2 other times. I am not saying Relf is better overall, but he was the better QB on the field Saturday.

Archie went 1-0-1 in Egg Bowls as the starter. He was hurt for the Egg Bowl in 1970, which we won.

Eli was 2-1 as a starter.

Relf is 2-0 as a QB, 1-0 as a starter, although, I think it certainly would be fair to award him the win in relief.

They really should award wins/losses to QB's as part of their stats. Whoever is the QB when the team takes the lead for the final time gets awarded the win. For instance, if the game is tied and Chris Relf comes in relief for Tyson Lee and Relf leads the go ahead score and we win, you give the win to Relf.

The announcers were saying that KJ was something like 3rd on the team in pass deflections and I just thought, well yeah, if you drop a bunch of interceptions you're gonna be pretty high in pass deflections.

So if the punter throws a td pass on a fake punt, then the punter would be the winning qb?

Not knocking the idea... I just wonder what would happen in that situation.

Thanks Herm!

Speaking of Herm, I thought this was by far his worst broadcast of us. And that's saying a lot.

But it should just be up to the scorekeeper's discretion.<div>
</div><div>Of course, it'd be a broken stat like pitcher's W/L, because if a QB takes every snap and goes 3-10 with 3 INTs but the team wins because a RB goes off for 250, the QB would still get a win? Maybe every game wouldn't have to have a winning QB.</div>

Because they keep passing stats on other players too- including QB rating. Why not wins and losses?

Would he get a save? If he lost it would he get the loss and a blown save?

If they did, they could name it after Matt Wyatt- the best relief QB/pooch punter in NCAA history.

Just because it's not often that a QB comes in to finish a game out.

I did detect sarcasm, though. Well played.

Pitchers have crappy outings and get wins all the time. I don't think QB wins are a stat that should be totally dependant on how the QB performs as an individual. Perhaps that QB is smart enough to call an audible where that RB breaks off an 80 yard run to win the game.

I do think that it would be a great stat to add to QB rating though.

The man has done half our games this year. He should at least know who our players are by now. I did think it was interesting to hear the announcers comparing our team's growth (and Relf's growth) over the course of the season.</p>
