Interesting to hear that level of detail about the '99 Auburn game. Probably my favorite State game ever. There is a grainy *** youtube video that I have watched a million times (http://youtu.be/l0C9Vx-VfJc) that took on a new perspective after hearing the interview. Got me fired up for the season. Go listen if you haven't.

Great interview. Thoroughly enjoyed that. (Also, by the way, HD6's Frank Stallone reference the other day cracked me up.)

A couple of funny things in that video: 1) Announcer calling us Ole Miss at 6:09. 2) Jackie's double handed head grab of Joe Lee Dunn at the end.

Somebody post the Sherrill/Earz after-game handshake pic.

I can't find it on the web. No telling what I would pay to know what Jackie said to him at that moment.

That was my first ever road game, and it's the high-water mark of road games...

...I remember specifically when Grindle fumbled with about 4 1/2 minutes to go, and everybody started leaving, a disgusted guy in his 30's next to me said "I hope we come back and win this thing just so those people leaving won't see it." Lo and behold....

Faustdog, Matt read your comment and told me about it. He just wanted me to know that I am not the only person in America that feels Dave Rowe was in the wrong line of work. I usually advocate restraint when discussing a person's work because, after all, that's how he/she makes a living. However, when someone is as bad and obnoxious as Dave Rowe was, I can't keep my disgust to myself. My poor family members had to listen to me rant about his incompetence for all the years he had the job of giving supposed "commentary" on football games. Tim Brando was bad enough. But, together, the two of them formed the worst football broadcast team in the history of college/professional sports. I know my post is getting long, but you struck a nerve with me. I used to write Jefferson Pilot emails complaining about it. Of course, nobody ever read those emails, but I was trying to get it off my chest. The worst thing Dave did was he constantly tell you what the players and coaches were thinking and what their motives were. It's just not honest to do that. It was as if he never played a down, and I'm pretty sure Tim (combover) Brando never did. Dave afflicted all SEC football fans for several years, and I still hate his voice is attached to some of the greatest replays in some of the greatest games ever. I don't know what he's doing now, but I hope he's better suited for it. By the way, I'm Matt Wyatt's dad.

Hello, Mr Wyatt.

I feel the same way about Rowe. What I remember most is that during a replay, he seemed to have already made up his mind what he was going to describe regardless of what was in the replay. A QB could throw an INT on a poor pass and Dave would say "look, tight spiral and the DB jumps the route" when in fact the ball was a wounded duck that was underthown 10 yards.

I couldn't stand Dave Rowe. They could have cut him and it would have been addition by subtraction.

Rack him...

Great interview. Also, Matt is one one the nicest and most humble guys you could ever meet. Had a chance to play on an intramural softball team with him when I was at state, and looking back now I am truly impressed with the way he handled himself. He was the starting qb for an SEC school, and never once acted like he was any better or deserved anything more than the rest of us.

PS. I walked outside after the fumble with about 4-5 min left, and missed the end...there I said it.

Thanks for reading and responding, Mr. Wyatt. You are absolutely correct that restraint should be used when discussing a persons work. Let's hope that Mr. Rowe has found a line of work better suited to his abilities.

It's ok you know who else walked out of that game?
