I don't know who was saying they knew two weeks ago that Jones was visiting OM last weekend. But if I, a Bulldog fan, knew that for a fact. I would not say anything either. Because instead of the fan bases going bat sh*t crazy this weekend, they would have gone bat sh*t crazy for two weeks. The guy would have been harassed to no end on anything from reasons to NOT go for reasons to go and things to do and which sorority was the easiest. Which the latter is the biggest reason not to say anything. The Rebs would have had a David Kellum style pissing of the pants for two weeks over it. Not to mention, lining up even more ridiculousness for his visit.
So, all that to say, I can believe some people may have known and just not said anything. Also, letting it out of the bag earlier, would have made the last two weeks for the kid shear hell.
