The Blog: How is Twany Beckham looking after his hip surgery and will he be the guy you go to at point guard with Dee Bost out?

Rick Stansbury: He seems to be healthy. He’s a guy that, very
obviously early, will have that opportunity and the guy we need to step
up. He has some experience, at least. He’s been through a season here
with us before and he was backup his freshman year.

Translation: I'm expecting Tranny to carry us at point through the non conference schedule, but I'm not sure if he will or not.
Then we’ll have to figure out (Brian) Bryant
and where he is. He’s a new guy coming in. We like Bryan but where is
he most efficient at? He played point guard in junior college and can
play multiple positions.
Translation: I've got this really good role player and I have no idea what to do with him. I'll probably play him at the 4 or something to take him completely out of his comfort zone to see if I can play 4 guards and 1 center again.
TB: John Riek has had his fair share of injury problems, how is he feeling and what do you expect to see from him in practice?

RS: He’s over those injury problems. No question he’ll be ahead of
where he was last year. His health seems to be good. He’s stronger. I
think after going through a year, all of that is better. Is it where it
needs to be? It’s not but he’s made progress.

Translation: Riek is at best a 10 minute a night guy and is not an NBA prospect at all after his injuries.

TB: Any thoughts about moving Bost to the two-spot on the floor?

RS: I haven’t given that any thought. Again, Dee is out (14) games.
Right now my thought is I go out there and he’s not in my thoughts.
We’ve got to play (14) games without him. He is not in my thoughts.

Nobody feels sorry for us. No one is going to cancel games. Those
games are going to keep coming. Dee is easy to plug in. He’s been here.
He has experience. I’ve got to plug in other people, because we don’t
have him, to make sure we have the opportunity to be successful.

Translation: I am pretty pissed at Dee. He has totally 17ed us this year by not reading the fine print and being lazy and listening to the wrong people. If Tranny sucks he'll get his job back but if not then he'll play a lot of 2 guard.

Riley (Benock) being a senior is a guy that needs to step up for us. I have confidence in him doing that. We have a good young player in Jalen Steele, who I really like a lot.

Translation: Benock is going to get a lot of minutes. Note that in none of my answers did I say anything about Shaun Smith. Basically don't expect him playing much this year. Steele will be a staple for us next year.

But it’s all new. That’s the whole key to our team. It’s absolutely new and different.

Translation: I've got a whole new batch of primadonnas that think they are lottery material and some of them are going to transfer in the offseason aGAIN.
