so they are looking at merger or scheduling alliance etc. Essentially combining the two conferences for impact. However that pretty much leaves WVU hanging out to dry. No way WVU can send Olympic sports across country...even basketball would be a reach. ACC if they want us. AAC if they don't. Wish officials would not be so silent.

Report: Big 12 to meet with Pac-12 to discuss alliance options

excerpt:
Could the Big 12 and the Pac-12 be joining forces in some form as Oklahoma and Texas head to the SEC?
According to The Athletic, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby is set to meet with Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff in the wake of the Big 12 powers' announcement they were heading to the SEC. The meeting would be about the ways the conferences can work together in a college sports landscape that's been rocked by OU and UT's decision to leave the Big 12.
That doesn't necessarily mean a conference merger, either. The conferences could look at a scheduling alliance similar to what Notre Dame has with the ACC.

AAC would be better than the Pac-10 for WVU....not money-wise....but in every other way.
$$$$$ is all that matter at this current juncture. Otherwise a University cannot compete with coaches, assistant coaches, supporting staff of coaches, facilities, and athlete exposure for their NIL opportunities and will steadily fade away into a MAC or WAC... or even worse, a marshall type existence.

From the Athletic article sourced above:

Bowlsby:
“I think there are options for us to partner with other conferences,” Bowlsby said Monday. “There may be opportunity for mergers. There may be opportunities to add members. There may be other opportunities that are currently unforeseen.”

One other possible solution Bowlsby floated while appearing for the committee in Austin on Monday would be the Big 12 working with another conference to aggregate their negotiating rights for the next TV deal.

We would have to see what the end result is if it actually happens. The alliance may only be for football and basketball. When Tcu was supposed to join the big east it was only going to be for Football and basketball. something like this might happen here. If something does happen it probably won't be the most desirable. We can just hope its something we can live with until something else comes along.

Any type of alliance with another Conference is great for the Big 12 because it will aid them in maintaining their autonomy standing within the NCAA.

Why would it be a hard pass for WVU? You think WVU is going independent or something?
Only way this would be advantageous is if the Pac12 , BIG and Big 12 come to an agreement and have scheduling commitments. In my opinion this would be really cool

Since it’s a possibility that conference champions don’t mean poopy, this would work out for everyone and no one would have to poach any teams. I’m sure you could set it up in pods. It will definitely be a massive counter punch to the SEC.

However ESPN would get involved and then push for conference champs.

Right now, the existing members are sticking together and don't have other homes. Everyone is saying their media rights will be reduced.

tougher for WVU to deal with it but BIG 12 schools need two quality opponents to make up their lost schedules in addition to the other OOC games. Guessing WVU will continue to do two P5s more regionally for higher revenues in addition to any Pac games ( 1 home one out there Id guess).

Have to make the best of it for now until something better appears.

H-G5
H-Pitt
A-NC State
H-Oregon
A-Kansas
H-TCU
A-Baylor
H-K State
A-OK State
A-Utah
H-Texas Tech
H-ISU

It feels like Let's Make A Deal gameshow. Do you want the prize you have seen behind door #2, or the possibility of the unseen behind door #3?
Suppose we decline on a Big12-Pac12 merger to get in the ACC - then Clemson/FlSt bolt for SEC & UVA/UNC leave for B1G. We are stuck with lots of Wake/BC/Duke/GT/Louisvile football games...instead of OkState/Washington/Iowa State/USC games. *IF* the ACC not poached from, I'd choose it. But if I can't know that - and Big12/Pac wanted a cooperative venture, I'd take that.

Heres some ideas on it from the TCU camp

Excerpt:
20 teams would be much more difficult to navigate than the 16 teams the SEC is expanding to, from a “making sure you play your whole conference” standpoint. But, it’s not impossible. Here’s what a potential Big 12/Pac-12 merger could look like.

Two 10-team divisions

Big 12/Pac-12 Merger | 2 Divisions

USCTCU
UCLATexas Tech
CalBaylor
StanfordOklahoma State
OregonKansas
Oregon StateKansas State
Washington Iowa State
Washington StateWest Virginia
Arizona Colorado
Arizona StateUtah
The pros of two divisions are limited - teams would rarely get to play teams in the other division in a 12-game season, unless the conference did away with non-conference games altogether.

Four 5-team Pods

Big 12/Pac-12 Merger - 4 Pods

I’m hearing more and more rumblings that yesterday‘s meeting was vetting a merger to approach BIG conference on a scheduling agreement.

USC vs UM, Mich St, OSU etc…

Nebraska playing old Bi12 rivals, Colorado too

WVU playing Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers etc.

This would be the ultimate agreement and would be awesome.

Sounds decent. WVU would need (5) non-conference games, so I'll give you WVU vs Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

Pac/B12 Would jump to 20 teams.
BIG has 14.

I wonder what the scheduling pod would look like and how a conference champion is determined.

Math would be better with 36 or 40.

Sorry not happening. Would need to play an 18 game season to make it mean anything. Furthermore the subject didn't come up. Meeting was essentially the Big Little Conference begging for a savior.
