First, if this team was undefeated or had one loss right now, Bob Huggins wouldn't even be discussed. His removal, no matter why or how it was done, would be so moot that Huggins would be a memory. So, those with their feigned outrage only show their indignance over a firing is circumstantial to the record of the team at present.
Second, it is good there are those on here who can separate Bob Huggins the man from Bob Huggins the coach. Bob Huggins the man, like all of us, is flawed and makes mistakes. We also do things that hopefully improve our humaneness. As such, we are often a contradiction of terms. Bob Huggins is no idol. For a few posters on here he has become one, and when an idol gets knocked off its perch, it often crushes those who kneeled around it worshipping. We see the results on here...
That written, only Bob Huggins the coach was fired, not Bob Huggins the man. The man can still go out and do the good things he was doing before - his recent trip to Mingo, the Norma Mae foundation and fish fry, and many others too numerous to list that are not public record.
Bob Huggins the coach signed a contract. That contract had terms that both parties had to agree to follow. Bob did not live up to the terms of his contract and was removed as coach. We can try the case in the court of public opinion but ultimately that gets nowhere. It is the court of law that matters and if Bob felt the university broke said contract and any clauses he has the right to sue. The "when", "where" and "how" are irrelevant - WVU was legally correct to remove him and they chose to do so. Bob Huggins is no martyr; he isn't sacrificing himself at the altar of West Virginia University. He simply has no case and he knows it.
What does the future hold? No one knows. We were going to learn about life after Huggins after this season anyway. This is a team in transition in a season of transition. Eilert is doing the best he can with what he has but I don't feel anyone believes he is the long term solution. On paper at least, in the summer this team looked like a sure-fire Sweet 16 team. Now? Hopefully a double-digit win team. Late spring will give us a glimpse into the future - lets at least have faith we will have a coach and a team that will lay a foundation of prosperity.
